Hi! I just found this site and I am so happy that there is a site specific for TNBC. I found my tumor Dec 6th 2011 and was diagnosed on Dec 8th. I had a bilateral mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy and 26 lymph node removed with only one that came back positive.  I also underwent reconstructive surgery at the same time and still have the awful tissue expanders.  I finished 6 rounds of chemo (taxotere & cytoxan) on May 3rd and graduated with my masters degree in nurse anesthesia the very next day.  Unfortunately, cancer decided to rear its ugly head during my last semester of nurse anesthesia school.  I would say I was devastated but actually I wasn't surprised at all since I have a 3 generation history of breast cancer in my family and my mom died of breast cancer at 41.  I also tested positive for the BRCA 1 gene mutation and I am currently undergoing radiation treatment. If all goes as planned I will finish radiation July 25th.

Dear Ibeshe,

welcome to our TNBC Foundation family. I think you will find this site to be a great resource and I am glad you found us, although sorry you had need to.

I, too, carry the BRCA1 mutation (187delAG) and I passed it on to my daughter who was dx with TNBC at age 36, 8 years ago. Thankfully, she is NED.

I have spent a good deal of time in the last 8 years doing research on BRCA/TNBC and helping women, as a volunteer patient advocate, with TNBC, especially MTNBC. For reasons, so far unexplained, it seems that most women who are BRCA1+ who have breast cancer have TNBC.

One of my particular interests is trying to get the word out that men can inherit the BRCA mutation and pass it on to their children, as I did.

Thank you so much for reaching out to me and sharing your story. I hope that your daughter is doing well!! I have one child, a son and I informed him once I received the results that I tested positive for the gene mutation that he would at some point need to be tested as well. I also told him that he could possibly pass the gene on if he has children one day. I am happy to say that my sister FINALLY got the courage to be tested a couple of weeks ago. I hope and pray that she does not have the gene.  I don't want her to go through this.
