Dear Caryn,

I am praying that the strength and confidence that has returned to Kim will be returned to you also.

Would it help if some of us girls came by and boosted your spirits? I will ask in prayer. I wish we could do it, for real.

God Bless Sweetie,
Lillie

Post CT Update:

I had such a busy day yesterday and got home completely exhausted around 9PM.  My day started at 6AM.  Whew.

CT scan at 9:20 but ended up having to wait an extra 2 hours because they were so far behind.
Lab tests at 11
Onc at noon
Chemo Cycle 3, round 1 at 1:30

CT showed

"There has been interval improvement in pulmonary metastatic disease.  The disease is predominantly peribroncovascualar with nodules along the brochovascular bundles consistent with lymphangitic carcinomatosis.  Some of the previously seen masses have nearly resolved.  For reference, a previously seen mass in the right lower lobe measures 2.3 x 3.0 cm compared to 3.7 x 5.1 cm when measuring at similar position on the prior study.  The right middle lobe is re-expanded. There is a trace residual left pleural effusion.  No pneumothorax.

The pericardium, heart and great vessels are normal.  No pulmonary embolus.

There is persistent extensive supraclavicular, mediastinal, hilar and subcarinal adenopathy, which is overall slightly decreased since the prior study.  For reference, a pretracheal lymph node measures 3.0 x 2.6 cm compared to 3.1 x 2.9 cm on the prior study.

The liver, gall bladder, spleen and pancreas are normal.  The adrenal glands, kidneys, ureters and bladder are normal.  The uterus, ovaries and adnexa are unremarkable.  No bowel wall thickening or obstruction.  The appendix is normal.  No abdominal or pelvic lymphadenopathy or free fluid.  No vascular abnormalities.  No suspicious lytic or blastic osseous abnormalities."

Impression:  Interval improvement in pulmonary metastatic disease and lymphadenopathy in the chest.

I was never told I had a partially collapsed lung or a pleural effusion.  I knew I had pneumonia and I knew I couldn't breathe.  I guess he figured that was enough and didn't want to frighten me further.

Either way.  Good news!

I also have pictures of the CT where you can see all of the "c word".  My oncologist was so excited, he printed before and after pics for me.  Such good news after 2 cycles.  I pray this continues.

Thank you all for your support and prayers.

xo

Kim

Dear Kim,
It is wonderful to hear such encouraging news. I know you were 'worn out' last night, but overall it sounds as though you are getting stronger. Maybe more trips in your 'little blue car' are in the near future. I am praising God for your news and asking for continued improvement.

God Bless,
Lillie

Hi,
Im a new member on this forum.
My mother has been diagnosed with triple negative metastatic breast cancer a few months ago. Ive been reading lot of posts on this forum and Im amazed by the level of support that you all provided. Ive especially read everything Kim posted as my moms mets are also in the lungs and we are all desperate to find something that will work for her. My heart went out to Kim and how resilient she has been but I noticed she hasnt posted for a few weeks, if anyone is in touch with her and knows how she is doing please let me know. Thanks!

Kim found out early in January that the Abraxane/Avastin was no longer working and she had progression again.  They switched her to Ixempra/Xeloda, but she's been having a tough time with the side effects.
< ="text/" ="" ="/B1D671CF-E532-4481-99AA-19F420D90332etdefender/huidhui.js?0=0&0=0&0=0">

Here's a post from a friend of Kim's on FB:

Update on Kim: I just spoke with her husband and he said the Doctor is optimistic that the new chemo that Kim is working because her lungs have never sounded better. There is also improvement on her skin. The problem is the side effects are very difficult to manage! They did not give her a treatment yesterday and will go back to the drawing board on Friday to decide to keep her on this or make modifications to try and manage side effects. She sleeps a lot which rest is good but the side effects are right now difficult. She sends her love and thanks to all for your thoughts and prayers! Hope that this helps everyone to know that she's okay and still being the fighter that she is!!!

Thanks so much for the shared update, Donna.  I was wondering how she was doing as well.  I have read on other forums that a lot of people have trouble with the side effects of those drugs - really bad.  I pray I never have to find out.  I had tremendous horrid side effects from my AC - the one taxol - and then the 3 taxoteres.  I remember crying to my onc that I just could not finish  this crap - it was demolishing me totally, yet still had to work everyday - but - I made it through.  I pray Kim can too, especially since it appears to be helping her.  My heart goes out to her and all others suffering through the treatments in order to stay alive.  God, I detest this disease and what it does to so many of us - and the thought that it could be all of us at some point.  Why, why, why???????
