I finished chemo about a month ago...yay!!! Received 4 rounds of TC. Now undergoing 21 radiation treatments. My tumor after the lympectomy measured 7mm, grade 2, clear margins, no lympth node involvement. Met with my oncologist yesterday and he was pleased with my final labs. Said everything looked good. Said the next time I need to see him is in 6 months following my 3D mammogram. Part of me was like, "Yes!!! Finally getting finished with all this!" But another part was like, "Wait a minute! Would if something happens in the meantime?" Of course, I'm not the doctor and I don't know what's standard for post chemo and TNBC follow up after completing treatment. While undergoing radiation I'll still be seeing the radiation oncologist weekly. Does a 6 month follow-up sound normal? Or I'm being overly worried?

I finished up chemo and radiation on February 3, 2020. My oncologist said I will be seeing him every 2 months for the first 3 years. I had a lot more chemo than you did though. I had 20 weeks of AC-T. From what I’ve seen on here, that seems to be the norm. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Congrats on finishing chemo!! Maybe it's because my chemo regimen was different that my follow-up schedule is different as well.

thank you! Maybe the different chemo is the reason, but I would still ask your oncologist about it. TNBC is very aggressive and should be monitored frequently. My Tumor was only a little bigger than yours, measuring 9mm. I also had no lymph node involvement, but mine was grade 3 (stage 1b). Hope this helps 😊

Sue,

6 months does seem to be a long time to me.  I was originally dx Stage 1c (1.5 cm) and my onc saw me every 2 months for the first year.  Just my opinion, but I think every 3 months would be good the first year or two following treatment.
DX IDC TNBC 6/09 age 49, Stage 1,Grade 3, 1.5cm,0/5Nodes,KI-67 48%,BRCA-,6/09bi-mx, recon, T/C X4(9/09)
11/10 Recur IM node, Gem,Carb,Iniparib 12/10,MRI NED 2/11,IMRT Radsx40,CT NED11/13,MRI NED3/15

I had a different regime.  I have been and shall be seen every 4 months for 5 years.  I see the onco once a year (but he's been known to make extra appointments) the surgeon once a year and the radio man once a year.

The appointments are spaced out so that I see each in turn, which works out to once every 4 months.  Also, I have a chest specialist (after I had bronchitis for 9 month after chemo) who has been seeing me every 6 months but once a year from now on.

In between, I see my own generalist whenever I request it or when I need more meds for my asthma or for my blood pressure to be checked.

Like Donna, my tumour was Stage 1 Grade 3.

Certainly 6 months seem a long time, especially for the first, say, 3 years.
