Wondering if anyone has taken Xeloda (pill form) after AC/T?  The side effects are concerning, especially the hand and foot syndrome and mucositis.  The mucositis was horrible for me during the ACT, and my feet have terrible neuropathy from the Taxol.

If so, can you give me some pointers on how to lessen the symptoms?

I'm on round 5 of 6 of Xeloda after Dose Dense AC x 4 and 14 rounds of weekly Taxol with 2 rounds of Carboplatin added at the end. I had really bad side effects the first round of Xeloda & my MC reduced my dose & that helped substantially! I still am getting dryness & peeling on my hands &feet but using Aquaphor & Udder Balm is helping tremendously. I started on 2,000 mg twice daily the first round but once they reduced it to 1500 mg twice daily it has really helped with the bothersome side effects. I also avoid spicy foods & drinks as they tended to bother my mouth. Once I cut out spicy & very salty foods I haven't had any more mouth ulcers. My mouth still gets tender towards the end of week 2 but it is much more tolerable.

Unfortunately I suffered permanent hair loss from TC (Taxotere/Cytoxsn) from my first diagnosis in 2010. What hair I have does not seem to grow like normal since I've been on Xeloda, it does grow, but much slower than when I wasnt on Xeloda.

hi JC104, why you taking xeloda after radiation. Did they assume you have residuals?

I am in xeloda for 2 cycles, 1 st is fine , 2nd experience hands and feet issues... a bit of upset stomach as well... I did sugery first so no way of verifying if I have any residuals ... I asked my MO to issue me xeloda for preventive care. Are you the same reason?

Regards,

Sophie

I had radiation in 2011 during my first occurrence. This occurrence my tumor did not respond to the AC/T with Carboplatin, it actually grew so I was told since mine did not respond I needed to take Xeloda for 4-6 rounds depending on how I tolerated it. Since I'm tolerating it well the goal is 6 rounds.

for those that took Xeloda or are taking it, 1500 mg BID?  Do you mind me asking height and weight?  My MC instructed I take 5000 mg a day, during radiation.

My specialty pharmacist said 2000 to 2400mg BID is the standard dose (4000 to 4800 daily). I started out at 4000mg per day (2000 am and 2000 pm) but had pretty bad side effects so my MO reduced my dose to 1500 BID (3000 daily) I'm 5'10" 153 lbs
