Topic: dose dense vs tac6 Posted: Jul 21 2011 at 3:02am |
Hello,
My 40 yr old sister-n-law was originally told by needle biopsy that she was stage O DSCIS, with a 5cm tumor. She had a mastectomy two weeks ago and pathology results came back with invasive stage 2 bc 4cm tumor no node involvement and triple negative on the invasive tumor. I went with them to there Oncology appointment and second opinion. First Oncologist advised TAC6 but the option of TC4, the second opinion doc advised Dose Dense AC+T every two weeks but said that TAC 6 was probably just as effective but much more difficult to tolerate. Both Oncologist were through Kaiser in Southern California. Any suggestions on guiding them to good information to decide between dose dense and TAC6? She is very fit and healthy has no other medical problems, mother of 3 boys and a very positive person...I just want to make sure she has all the information possible so she can make the most informed decision possible. Should they get a 3rd opinion, maybe outside of Kaiser...maybe City of Hope or Loma Linda?
Thank you so much in advance!

Lulu -
So sorry you have to join our group. Your sister-in-law is lucky to have someone looking out for her and researching options.
You might want to post in the TNBC Talk section, as it usually has more "traffic" and responses on it. One link you may want to read through is listed below about doing the "T" before the "A/C".
Ask us lots of questions - there are a lot of good people here.

Lulu4, This is just my opinion, but dose dense A/C + T is much better and less toxic than TAC x6. With the size of the tumor, I wouldn't do T/Cx4. There's another thread on this forum talking about doing T first, then A/C. I'll post the link and maybe your sister-in-law can talk to her onc about it. A 3rd opinion outside of Kaiser, is also an excellent choice. Another opinion at a NCCN facility would be a good idea. Print this article out and discuss with your SIL's onc: http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/attention-newbies-important-new-chemo-study_topic7771_page1.htmlYou might also want to ask if there are any clinical trials that your SIL could participate. Keep us posted. We'll help you out anyway we can. Donna
