I have just completed my radiation.  The side effects are minimal.  I had and still have some fatigue.  Nothing a nap or going to bed early can't cure.  My skin is also very red.  It feels like a mild sunburn.  Hope this helps you and your mom.

Patti and Daryl,

I have this link for you and there are side effects and some do not surface until later. Lori is still feeling them and she finished rads in January. As it says in our "chemo and rad tips", don't let anyone tell you that it is a piece of cake compared to chemo.

What kind of problems is she having?  I have been through chemo. Radiation is much easier to deal with, no naseua, hairloss, poor appetite, night sweats, headaches etc.  I could go on and on with the awful side effects of chemo.  I was down for a week after each treatment.  Radiation is not a breeze, but is is easer than chemo, by far.

Daryl,
Well I got very burned.... skin turned a black red color and was very painful, it has been three months and my skin is still peeling... I also lost about 10-15 pounds during treatment couldn't eat I was never hungry... Never got the tiredness that others talk about... but maybe that was because I had so much else going on...

I also had a lot of pain in my ribs and sternum  on the side that was being radiated.... Still have bone pain...

Here is to wishing your mom the best!
