Hi everybody!

Boy am I glad I found this website!!! Today is m 19th wedding anniversary and the day just started like the Apocalypse as I had gone to see a second oncologist (suggested by my wonderful oncologist) regarding my TNBC. Quick summary - back in October 2012, I got diagnosed with TNBC - no breast cancer history, originally from France. Lumpectomy, chemo, radiation - honestly it was pretty smooth sailing; picture of optimism and hope. Wonderful husband, 2 beautiful teenage daughters, outstanding support group! Finished radiation at the end of May 2013 - 3 weeks later, I started having problem breathing; hospitalized for 1 week (low white cell, super low blood pressure - infection?). Came out on time for my oldest daughter's high school graduationTongue 10 days later, back to square one with more breathing problems....back to the hospital for one week where we found out the TNBC had spread to my lungs and liver. I mean, I did not have a bloody mini remission!!! my oncologist was shocked by the pace of that crap spreading!!! So I started chemo again - 3rd chemo tomorrow (1 day a week for 3 weeks, one-week break, etc.) So today, I got to meet that other oncologist and basically he told me to expect to be around maybe for another 6-12 months.....nice!!! NOT!!! I am so disappointed in the western medical system in that they are so into their bubble that they can't even think that there might be some other stuff to be done beside chemo. I started a drastic new diet - raw food, juicing, fruits, ginger, cayenne, garlic, turmeric, no booze, no processed foods, no dairy products, fish and chicken, organic as much as possible, almond milk, vegan stuff - went to celebrate with hubby in a wonderful raw food restaurant at lunch. Anyway, the way the dr was talking today, don't do anything different, just eat whatever crap you want, coz you know what you will freaking DIE soon! what a bloody moron. My oncologist during chemo tomorrow will get an earful about her stupid colleague!!! I am seeing a nutritionist on Thursday because even though I eat I lose weight and I don't want to get weak. I am also seeing a naturopath in September. Would love to hear from anybody who went through the same (especially the pace the cancer spread) and what changes you have made that worked. Luckily for me from the beginning I have be super extra positive so I will be doing the same as I have a lot to live for. Ciao for now et merci!!!Hug

Isabelle - I am so so sorry you first are going though this beast still, but mostly that you had such an awful experience.  Just remember - People do not have an expiration date stamped on them!!

As for the food changes - I have a friend that did something similar and actually did go into remission from her colon cancer through diet.  She still is 2 years later so there is alot to be said for diet and attitude as part of your treatment plan.  My friend says 2 tbsp of asparagus powder in water and flax seed in cottage cheese every day.

May god bless you through this fight and may your second oncologist understand some day how awful his words were.

Hi Isabelle,

I'm so sorry for what you've gone through.  Hopefully your regular oncologist will step up and things will go better for you.  Please keep us posted.

Isabelle, what were your stats. at time of diagnosis? What type of chemo did you receive? I hope your original oncologist has a better plan for you and that you will not have to see the second one again.

Hi Isabelle,

Sorry to hear of your difficulties with medical advice. I always think of healing in a very individualized way, therefore including different approaches on many fronts, including diets, activities, medication regimes, etc..

Sending hopeful, healing thoughts your way.

Love and Peace,

Sue

thank you all for caring! My original TNBC back in October 2012 was stage 1, nothing in the nodes. Either the cancer was already in the lungs and liver but too small to be noticeable thru cat scan and MRI. Luckily my oncologist is the most caring doctor and I love her and can discuss anything with her. I am on a ketogenic diet - quite an adjustment but hey if that is what it takes, so be it - luckily my husband is the cook and super supportive and so are my great teenage daughters!!! That other oncologist I kicked in the ass and hope never have to deal with him ever again!!!!!
Love you all!!!!!

Checking in again after a few very busy wks. of appts., work craziness, a 2nd opinion, etc. Down to the wire with my BMX on Wed. 08-14. Don't know what to expect for activity levels while recovering, know the drains sound very limiting. Am ready with lots of pillows & the amoena post-surgery camisole which was recommended. Am nervous about the sentinel node biopsy the most right now! Have soreness on the IDC side &weekend am hoping too much time didn't elapse since my biopsy June 13th...What's involved in the pre-surgery injection I have to leave work for tomorrow? Any other last minute advice from you recent surgery veterans? (Dawncoskren, weekender09, JulieKCA2013, SueCape I remember)

Isabelle, just want to wish you the very best with your new diet and the chemo you're doing now.   Your attitude is  wonderful.  Please keep us updated as to how you're doing.  Stay strong!  I so agree with Barb....no expiration date stamped on any of us that I'm aware of.

Peace to you with love....Hug

Responding to Calamity Jane:
Hope your surgery went well and that you are at home chillin' about now...  keep moving but not too much so that the drainage will slow down and you can get the pesky drains out!  It takes time to get energy back but you should do great!

Isabelle,
What I always advise my patients with advanced or metastatic disease to do - is whatever you want!  If changing your diet and trying new things is what helps you cope with being in a tough situation - then go for it!  Just don't deprive yourself of treats or something yummy just because it's not on your strick regimen - balance is the key issue right now!
Hoping your new round of treatments kicks this in the butt!
