Hi, I was recently diagnosed with TNBC, stage 1, grade 3, tumor 1.6 cm. Last week I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy (I believe 2 nodes were removed). I also received a nerve block. Recovery is going ok, still experiencing pain and my back feels weird at times. I meet with the surgical and medical oncologist this Friday. I'm very nervous and not sure what to expect. I know I have a long road ahead of me as this is just the beginning...I'm tired already and want this to be over.

I had chemotherapy first because the tumor was to big to operate. Your doctor will go over a chemotherapy plan. I am waiting on a surgery date haveing a lumpectomy. I finished my chemotherapy on June 27 . This site is great for answers and lots of great people for support. God bless

Hi Candy, My mom's diagnosis last September, is very similar to yours, Stage 1 tnbc, grade 3, 1.8mm... she had a sentinel node biopsy first, followed, by a lumpectomy with clear margins! Not sure what a nerve block is, we were also very scared, with the diagnosis, especially if you read about tnbc online, it sounds like a death sentence! So my advice would be to stick with this forumn, you have come to the right place! Stay off google! We met with oncologist, which sent us for further tests, bone scans, chest xrays, abdominel ultrasound, heart specialist! This was all to see if there was any further mestatis, but with stage 1 and no nodes it's very unlikely, just had to do all the tests, the heart test was to if she could handle the chemo, after all of this, we were given our treatment plan, mom did 6 months of cmf chemo, and then went on to do 7 weeks of radiation! Which ended today a week ago! A Journey that seemed impossible, with many ups and downs, has eventually come to an end! And you'll be here soon! I can't speak of side effects or what it is was like, because it was my mom, that went through it all..... But she's come out of this, much stronger, and is high on life, the last few days! This forumn became my best friend everytime mom had a problem I would post, and get loads of replies with advice, and put me at ease, that what she was going through was normal! Keep asking questions, once you have treatment plan, you'll feel more @ ease and ready to get things going! Keep us posted, God Bless you, as you start on this journey, one that many have travelled and survived, YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!
Mom Dx 9/12
Stage 1c No Nodes involved.
Lump clear margins 10/12. Started 6 months of cmf chemo 11/12. Ended 4/13. RADS 28 tx 7 boosts ended 7/13. 02/14 Scans NED. 10/14 Scans NED. 6/15 Scans NED.

Lillie thanks for understanding and your reply. Fats1976, it is very encouraging to know that your mom has made it through all her treatment...I am so happy for her! Thanks for posting her story it is very encouraging. I'm feeling really great today as the results of my BRCA test came back negative. Feeling like I can beat this disease. I appreciate this organization so much...you are all AWESOME!

Your diagnosis was very similar to mine. I was diagnosed a year ago 1.6 cm, no nodes, grade 3. I had lumpectomy followed by AC/Taxol then radiation. Finished treatment in Feb. the chemo, especially the AC was very hard. Taxol wasn't as bad and radiation was a breeze. It's very scary especially if you google TNBC. I pretty much stuck to visiting this site. Had my first post treatment mammo a couple of weeks ago. Had to get 3 biopsies, all were begign. See my general surgeon tomorrow. I would recommend reading Life Over Cancer or Five To Thrive. Make sure your vit. D levels are normal. Try to get some regular exercise. (Although i didnt feel well enough to exercise during AC chemo). You can get through it. Jesus Calling devotional was a great resource for me as well. Please contact me if you have any questions about anything.

I've been taking an extra Vitamin D for yrs. along with Calcium, & also more in my daily women's multiple vitamin...but unfortunately that didn't help prevent my TNBC; however, because I was BRCA-, they are blaming my BC on the mantle rads I had at age 23 for Lymphoma. I wonder if continued Vitamin D intake would help at all with preventing recurrence?? Haven't had surgery or treatment yet.

There is a thread somewhere on here explaining Vit D. In that book Life Over Cancer, they make suggestions about what supplements to take during each specific treatment. Always check with your Dr first before taking anything. I had blood work done with an integrative radiology oncologist and he recommended certain supplements, dietary changes, relaxation, etc.. During AC chemo I could barely eat so didn't do well taking supplements during that time. Did get back on track during Taxol. Diet, exercise and stress play a huge role. Vit. D levels, inflammation are also explained in both those books. Get a Vitamix and start a healthy shake at least 1x day. It's a scary time, I know.
