Topic: Odd muscle pain Posted: Mar 27 2013 at 11:03pm |
Hello all it is me again. I have a new symptom question this one a bit odd. I started my AC treatment on 3-19-13 and I had a neulasta shot on 3-20-13. On Monday 3-25-13 I started having horrible pain in my right arch when I walked. On Tuesday 3-26-13 I started having pain in my jaw muscle when I ate or drank. I put a call in to the nurse and she thought it might be residual muscle pain from the neulasta shot but was going to give me a call back after consulting a doctor. I am a teeth grinder and I have had plantar fasciitis in my foot in the past. I am wondering if I have any muscle scarring that is being affected by the chemo or shot. Has anyone had any similar happen to them? I know everyone is different but I need to see if there is something I can do at least for this foot pain. I can't exercise, even walking is very difficult and I need to stay active with my kids. Thank you all, you have been an enormous help to me and my family.
-Julie

I had a cortisone shot in my foot for PF...took care of the pain an discomfort. I wear inserts in my shoes to support my foot. Acupuncture and a LMT who specializes in TMJ, helped with my face/teeth/jaw pain. Hope you can find solutions to your pain...no fun!

So you experienced this also during chemo? Is this the neuropathy they were listing as a side affect?

Julie,
This isn't neuropathy...that is more of a numbness or tingling. It usually starts distally- out at the ends of limbs, so fingers and toes. I was a lucky one who didn't have joint pain with Neulasta, so I am not experienced there, but it certainly sounds like that is more the culprit. Many talk about taking Claritin prior to the shot to help. Chemo acts like a giant anti-Inflamatory for the system but after it is over, that's when we all seem to get the join pain that lingers! You could also be grinding your teeth from a wee bit of stress! Hope it resolves soon.

Julie, I did not experience the nuelasta pain until I did Taxol. Horendous joint & muscle pain in all the big bones in my body. Mostly from the waist down, but yes also my arms neck and some jaw. Confirm with your doc or nurse regarding this just to make sure. If I over do it I still feel it, just not as bad. By my signature you can see that it has been a while since finishing treatments. No pain meds the doc gave me really truly made it feel all that much better. It lasted from day 2 after shot to about a week later. Hung onto walls and counters to function. Sorry if I am scaring you, that is not my intention. I just wanted to be honest here. Nat

Julie,
I had the same chemo as Natalie above and my worst bone pain was when I did taxol treatments. I also had plantar Fas (sp) in my feet for a period of time. The foot and bone pain is gone but my arthritis in hands, back and knees makes is difficult not to talk about pain.
But, you will get through this and we will be here to cheer you 'all the way'.....
God Bless,
Lillie

I talked to a nurse practitioner. They are attributing to neulasta and are prescribing me Norco to take at night for the pain since both are worsened during sleep. I don't know if I am going to take it, I am not a big fan of the heavy drugs. I would rather do a cortisone shot for my foot pain, get better shoes and orthotics. I have a history of plantar fas, but I haven't had it since I worked on cement floors. I will talk to my doctor Tuesday when I see her.

I just went through this the other day...I started my chemo on the 18th and yesterday woke up in agony like a knife was jammed in my spine. Couldn't sit stand or lie down. The onc nurse asked a covering doctor and they attributed it to the Neulasta. I took a prednisone on my own and they said I could take ibuprophen. I am going to talk to the doctor on Monday because they are going to have to give me something in case it happens again. I have a pretty high tolerance to pain but that was insane!
