Michele, I did accupuncture thru tx and found it really helped my energy level. I worked thruout tx. I didn't start it until after my first chemo so did have a basis of comparison. I have tried accupuncture for various things since and didn't think it made much difference but was greatful it seemed to really work during tx.

Michelle,
Yep, the day of chemo is relatively uneventful.  It's those days to follow when the fatigue sets in.  It's not something that sleep helps, but resting is the best you can do much of the time.  I don't know how anyone is able to work on chemo.  I applaud them.  I sure wouldn't have been able to.  I wish I had used my exercise bike more during chemo.  I lost a lot of muscle mass when not exercising.  If you can even imagine some exercise, it will benefit you in the long run.
Praying that you are able to continue doing well on chemo.  It will be over before you know it.

Dear Susan- I am interested in this film. Not being computer savvy, I don't know that Netflix instant play that you are talking about. How does that work?  Right now, I don't know if I ate too many veggies but I am having tummy troubles.  I am allergic to C.  I get hives. So, the vit C is not for me.
I am looking for a good digestible multi-vitamin.  Right now, I'm taking theragram.  Is there anything better out there?
Keep me posted on any info you have.

Hi Mary Ann,
Netflix requires a membership, so you obviously don't have one if you are not familiar with it.  Netflix is a nice movie subscription service where you pay a fixed price every month and have access to many movies both instantly (on the computer) and by DVD through the mail.  I believe I pay $8 per month and can take out 1 DVD at a time.  That's too bad about your allergy to Vitamin C.  I really not sure about vitamins and their digestibility.  I just take a regular multivitamin plus iron and calcium, One a Day brand.  when Ifirst upped my intake of veggies, I started to have lots of stomach issues, mostly gas.  I started taking Gas-X and Beano and these definitely helped.  My body does not do well with beans Confused

Hello everyone!
Just figured I'd chime in to share the great news I received today...
This morning I received  the results from my re-excision last week...No abnormal cells found!! Yippee!  I guess my body killed them all during the healing process of my first lumpectomy (the inflammatory response brings out the "big boys' in the immune system)  according to my surgeon.    If only we could harness this mechanism for treatment in other ways.  Hope they are working on this somewhere.  Now onto 7 weeks and one day of radiation.  Going for my set-up next week.  We will be celebrating tonight.  Finally some good news, after three months of the roller coaster!

Hello Everyone - haven't been on in a little while.  It's good to see the accomplishments by everyone.  Congrats!  It's a tough road so we know what a great feat it is.

I go for a mammo April 5th, so we'll see how that goes.  Feeling prett good.  Still a little tired.  I feel for those who don't have medical insurance.  Since my radiation treatments ran into this year, one week in January cost me $1,300 (which was like 20% of the cost).  Since I met my deductibe last year I didn't pay anything.

Oh, I was reading on this string about Chobani Greek Yogurt .  It's very good :)  I make the Tzatziki Sauce, which is very easy to make.  I'll make that as my dip with fresh veggies, mmmmm, very good and healthy.

I started going to the gym at work.  It's going well.  I also finished one session of weight watchers, very good program.  They don't restricted you on what you can eat, you keep a food journal and count points and it's a real eye opener on what we think is good to what is actually good for us.  It did change this year to give more freedoms with fruits and veggies and more points to bad carbs and fatty foods.

I know you guys feel about losing the hair - when it starts falling out, it really makes cancer feel real, chemo will make you feel tired and ill, but when we look out ourselves we fell like we're just not feeling well and no one knows what is really wrong with us, when you lose your hair, the reality kicks in that we have this monster in us that we have to poison out!!!  It does get much better once you comes to grips of it and move forward to kicking some butt!  My hair is getting pretty long (about 2 inches) and it's pretty much black with some curls (gray spot still there); it was a dark brown before.  It's soooo thick.  You can't find a part at all.

Been really busy with work.  They are still cutting jobs, luckily my group is still here :)

Be back soon,
Love Cigi (Carol)

Hi - i am Sheri and i must say i wish i did not have to be posting on this site.  However, i am glad that i found this site.
i was "officially" diagnosed last week, have tests this week and start Chemo Texotere/AC (separately) 4 rounds 3 week intervals.  after first 4 will assess shrinkage (die bad cells!) then either surgery or 4 more rounds chemo - then surgery - then radiation.
i am adopted so i am trying to find out some history - more for my daughter than me.
i appreciate any words of wisdom.
i will admit to being scared ~ but i am determined too.

Welcome Sheri - Sounds like you have positive outlook and will do just fine.  You came to the right place and there are many here who are very knowledgeable and experienced.  It's a great souce of information and a place to vent our issues.  Hope that your treatments go fast and you'll feel better soon.

Hi Sheri, welcome.

Please look around the website, there is alot of valuable information for you to read in learning about tnbc.  Also there is a Resource link near the top that might be helpful and our TNBC News/Resource section.

I understand this is all pretty overwhelming for you right now.  In the beginning everything moves pretty quickly.  Once you begin treatments things will slow down and you'll get into a sort of routine.

There are some chemo tips in the TNBC News/Resource section also.  It sounds like you will be doing neo-adjuvant chemotherapy which according to many articles and studies works well for tnbc.  Many of us have the same type of chemo but some have it before surgery and some afterwards.

These links will tell you more about the types of chemo you will be having and what to expect..please feel free to ask any questions, we will do our best to help.  http://www.chemocare.com is a nice website to find answers about chemotherapy.

Dear Sheri,

welcome to our family...

you are in the right place but I wish you didn’t have to be here..

You asked for some “words of wisdom”...can’t promise that they are but I do have a couple of thoughts-

If you are <45 years of age with TNBC, it is recommended that you see a Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) with a view to test for the BRCA mutation, even absent a family history of breast/ovarian cancer...that is important information for your daughter to have if you are positive and possibly important information for your treatment plan..

I would try to get an appointment at MD Anderson’s Clinical Cancer Genetics Dept. to meet with a CGC..I met with a Dr. Banu Arun and a Kaylene Ready (CGC) there and they are both excellent in my opinion..

Secondly, by your treatment plan, I don’t think you are a patient at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and I would suggest you get a second opinion from them, at some point. Because you just stated treatment, this may not be the best time, but I personally would try. I would suggest seeing Dr. Ana Maria Gonzalez-Angulo.

Sheri, please understand I am not a medical professional so please do not take my “words of wisdom” as medical advice...just my personal opinion..

good luck to you!!

all the best,

Steve
