ASTRO (American Society of Radiation Oncology) has an educational video on:
An introduction to external beam radiation.
Posting for general information even thought parts of the video are on the technical side.
Things to remember when watching the video:
General information......not specific to radiation therapy for breast cancer
Video refers to: radiation to tumor.......substitute tumor surgical site for radiation after
breast cancer surgery.
Video refers to scans after radiation therapy.....this refers to cases of radiation to tumor
and not to cases of radiation after tumor surgery.
(Post entire breast cancer treatment plan: it has already been mentioned on various other
threads that there is a difference of opinion among cancer centers/oncologists re: scans
after treatment plan completed in the absence of symptoms.)
Video mentions blood counts due to fact that video has general info and not specific to
radiation fields for breast cancer. Some/many centers do not do blood work as part
of radiation therapy plan for breast cancer.
MOST IMPORTANT: Follow your physician's instructions and information if/when different
from the video. One may discuss any differences with one's radiation oncologist.
