heather, read your blog... is it expected that your legs swell up? do your doctors say what causes that? are you on a diuretic? or do you still have to wait? Rest and drink plenty of fluids. I am glad you have such a good friend to stay with you. :)

Heather,
I posted on your blog (now that I'm not blocked by a firewall), but I wanted to post here too. You MUST slow down. No Target shopping, not even leaving your house and at home, no nesting. Just RESTING.
Your body has shown that it wants to retain fluid. Anything that you do will cause it to blow up and get you back into the hospital.
I think, my dear, is that your 33 year old, do it all head isn't willing to give into the "i'm going through cancer treatment" state of mind. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY and DON'T try to push through anything.
Love,
Caryn

Krisa,
Taxotere, and really any taxane has a possible side effect of swelling. I am just that one person that got it. They do not know what causes it. The way I look at it is, that really comes down to each of our own body's chemistries and how our bodies only process the "poison/chemo". This is the part that is impossible for them to "hand" us when our Onc's sit down with us and go over "possible" side effects. Sure, mine did that to some extent. But its impossible for them, and the pharm co's to know not only what side effects we each will have, but why.
I get to tag it as just another wonderment. I haven't been pregnant yet, to full term, but wonder if and when I do, if I will have a tendency to swell up as well.
They don't know if this will happen again. I am feeling better today. When I lay down my lungs still hurt, so there is still water in there. The goal, through me taking the predisone is to decrease the inflammation so the lining in the heart & lung sacs will calm down and allow the water to flow through and out better.
I am not on a diuretic. It would not be good for my body right now. It doesn't take the water away from my heart and lungs, it only gets rid of the water elsewhere. It would make my heart work harder, and it doesn't need that. Supposedly, cross your fingers, the predisone will do its job and then my heart will beat and work correctly, and pump my water out the way a diuretic and I'll just pee a lot. I think that's happening. I do still have swelling. But its getting better.
Love,
H
