Centsan,
I responded to your post in another thread, but will let you know that I had this combo (Carboplatin and Gemzar) for my recurrence. I had a recurrence 13 months after finishing chemo to an internal mammary node that was inoperable. We started this chemo combo, which was part of a clinical trial for Iniparib, and after 2 cycles achieved no evidence of disease. I continued with 2 more cycles, then radiation. Carboplatin and Cisplatin are platinum chemos that seem to work well for some of us triple negatives. Others have had this combo and will hopefully post about their experience.
Were you tested for the BRCA gene?

Thanks for responding Donna, I was tested 5 years ago and I'm BRACA 1 and 2 negative. This is a new primary and for some reason, Oncologist seems like they don't really know how to treat it. I haven't received any other responses

I am on my 4th battle with triple negative breast cancer with the longest stretch being four years! This time it metastasized to my lung. I had a successful lung resection with clean margins, although detection in the vascular lymph system. My doctor has recommended this cocktail for me and I agree with you centsan, there seems to be no good recommendations for us TNBCer's. I am BRCA1 positive! I am going to get 2 more opinions on this chemo regiment treatment on Tuesday, I will be happy to share my findings with you if you would like!

RandG and Centsan,
I was diagnosed in the beginning of 2010, and my doctors had me on gemzar/carbo from the start. I found overall it was very tolerable, I mostly had fatigue. I had good results from this chemo; it seemed like it attacked the cancer right away (my tumor was palpable and after 1 cycle I could feel it was shrinking). I had neo-adj chemo by the way.
I am not sure why carbo/gemzar is not more widely prescribed for TNBC. I never got a great explanation from my onc about why I was given this chemo vs. ACT or other chemo. I think I will ask her next week when I see her.
I wish you both good health and hope that whatever treatment path you take that it is successful.
Hugs, Lisa

RandG,
I am interested to learn what your doctors recommend next. I think I read somewhere that gemzar/carbo plus PK13 is effective with BRCA 1+ patients (oh and no hair loss either - one small bonus!). I'm am sorry to read that you are dealing with this yet a 4th time. This crap is relentless to say the least.
Best Wishes and Prayers, Lisa
