I start my chemo Thursday. I am on AC/T and I am supposed to lose my hair around the start of he second dose (2 weeks after first). I found a wig shop here that took my insurance, and I was billed nothing. I have Anthem and I am allowed 3 hair prostethises a year at $400.00 each. I was lucky and got three in December and now I can get three more. I have also gotten a wig from Ebay (it was new from China) I only paid 20.00. If you go to the cancer society or a look good feel good meeting then you are allowed to have one free wig. I was also allowed a free leisure bra after my dbl mastectomy.

Brad & Kerry:
Well you are off to the races!
Usually 14 days after the first infusion our hair starts to fall out. It many be prudent to wait until it starts then go have it shaved. That is what I did. Also, get a wig (prothesis) while Kerry still has her hair that way they will match up the color...
We are rooting for you as you begin your chemo journey. Take lots of water with you to keep you hydrated, a good book, or tunes with a headset, warm snuggly (it is cold in the rooms) and most importantly, RELAX.....Go with the flow so to speak... Post Friday night when you get a chance to let us know how you made out tomorrow...
Your sisters and brothers on the journey are here waiting....xoxo Helen in NS

Dear Kerry and Brad, Cristy and Scott,
take a laptop and some dvds with you and buy a splitter from Radio Shack...so you can both listen at the same time...
that really helped my daughter and I...to be honest she did not stay up for a complete movie once in the four months but somehow it helped her relax and it helped her and I take our minds off the chemo a bit..
hugs to all,
Steve

Hi Brad and Kerry,
Yes pack you guys a bag of things, your laptop, Ipods, book or paper, pen/paper, water, snacks. Maybe you could go out and pick up some lunch and bring it back for Kerry then eat together. We used to do that.
Yes Helen is right, around week two the hair will start coming out. She will find it probably on her pillow or shoulders, down the front of her shirt and in the shower, oh my gosh!
There are plenty of headwear links in the TNBC News/Resource section.
They are also located in Ardmore, OK But think they are online only, not sure.
My Oncologist is also at Tulsa, what hospital are you guys going to? Do you live in OK? I'm down in the SE corner where there is nothing.
Good luck with the treatment and keep us updated.
These ladies make beautiful scarves and they will give your wife one free.

Thanks to all,
We appreciate the good info. I did check on the pre-meds ,crash cart, and other things and yes they will be there. Thanks sooo much. We didn't sleep very good last night. Kerry has a headache since yesterday. She is being treated for TMJ. (jaw problems) We plan on leaving later this morning, it's an hour and fifteen min. trip. Chemo is at 2: 30. We are going to have lunch with our daughter (Kayla) and son-in-law (Kyle). Our son (Kyle) and his girlfriend (Kylie)have to work. Did you get the names correct. It took me awhile, but we have a great family. Kayla is expecting our first grandchild in July. We found out the same day Kerry was dx. That really seems to help on the tough days , like TODAY!!!We just want this over and gone!!!! But we never tought that there would be so much love and support. When I got up and turned on the computer, there you guys were giving your love and support.
Pam, we now live in Stillwater, we had lived in the Tulsa area for 15 years. I am a retired coach and teacher. We moved, so I could help my brother on the family farm. We still go to St. Francis and docters in Tulsa. Kerry's oncologist is Dr.Panicker, at the Cancer Care Associates near 91st and Mingo. We like him. He is following the treatment prescribed from M D Anderson. Sorry for so much rambling but this forum helps me as much as it does Kerry.
Thanks again
Brad

Dear Kerry and Brad,
Thinking of you both. It sounds like you are in good hands and will get through this just fine.
It was wonderful that you wrote to your forum family so early this morning even with so much on your plate! Thank you for thinking of us!

Friends,
We are 1 week down and 23 more to go! So far today Kerry is feeling really good~we hope that continues with no major complications. The nurses were so helpful and so nice, we felt that we were in good care. We can only pray that it continues to be that way. Thank you for all of your kindness and support.
Brad and Kerry

Kerry's Krew update
She has 7 treatments down and 5 more of weekly Taxol, then the 12 weeks of FEC. (every 3 weeks) We had a rough time with week 3 and 4, mostly from a stomach virus and the medications got doubled up. Doctors do make mistakes, but it was my fault for being gone that day. Since then, only being tired and slap happy bald are the biggest problems. She is starting to get use to the bald part and her wig looks REALLY good!!! I have been very busy with my company and have had to rely on family and friends for help. There are many bad things that come with this thing called CANCER, but family and friends are surely the BEST things that come about. We thank the family and friends on this web site for making our jouney as best as can be expected.
Thanks for being with us
Brad
