Topic: Chemo Support for my Mom Posted: Feb 01 2014 at 12:27pm |
Hi everyone, My mom was diagnosed stage 1 and had a lumpectomy 2 years ago. Chemo & Radiation. The cancer was found again about 3 weeks ago, stage 4. A size 7cm tumor on her liver and spots in her vertebrae. My mom has done one round of chemo and we were floored by how laid out she was by the treatment. She wasn't sick at all with her first series of chemo. Can any one give me advice as to things that might help her get through her next round better? Also if anyone wants to message me with some honest expectations for this process I would appreciate hearing your stories.
Thank you, Emily

Hi Emily,
I'm so sorry your mom's cancer returned. Can you share what type of chemo she had the first time? What type of chemo is she getting now?

Lovely, Talk to her onc about more meds for nausea. I ended up with 4 different meds.......one was a patch........the one that helped finally in the end was as the onc said "This is an older med that will make you sleepy" As I said to him.....I would love to sleep through as much of the side effects as I can......bring in on!! It did help.

the older med was probably Compazine, I took it with Zofran and it worked well. Definitely call the DR and ask for different drugs to try. Let us know what they say.

i had 5 different anti nausea meds, wore my sea bands for a week during and after each treatment and had a gifted acupuncturist (with the blessing of my onco) and firmly believe each one of those things helped greatly. i found that peppermints also helped with nausea. drinking lots of water is important to keep hydrated. i hope your mother finds something that helps.

I also drank ginger tea and ate ginger snaps(must contain real ginger) too which did help as well. Just a few more thoughts I had! :)
