I was never tested but as that both my mother and her mother both died of breast cancer diagnosed in their 30s and as that we are Ashkenazi Jews both my current oncologist and I proceeded as if I carry the gene (certainly either that one or one yet to be discovered). Taxol wasn't quite standard when I went through treatment, plus I had terrible poor people insurance (Anthem) and less than optimum care. I now have the ACA so I can be seen at the James Cancer Center, which is the very best. IDK what will happen when the ACA is gutted next year. It's going to be a bumpy ride for a lot of us.

Dx June 06 stage 1 at age 46, no nodes, clean margins, Ki-67 at 54, Bilateral Mastectomy, 4 rounds AC, complete hysterectomy Aug O7. Mother and Grandmother both died of breast cancer dx in their 30's.

LouiseB,

With Triple Negative, surgery, chemotherapy and possibly radiation are the only treatment choices currently available.  It's a very aggressive cancer that doesn't play by the rules.  We only get one chance of trying to beat this beast the first time.  If you are having doubts about chemo, maybe get a second opinion?

Hi Lisa Smile I finished my weekly Taxol last Feb. I was soooooo worried at the beginning but it turned out to be so much better than AC was for me, didn't need the anti nausea meds or anything. I did develop neuropathy in my hands and feet which increased little by little each week but it didn't get bad enough to effect my daily activities. I thought every week for 12 long weeks seemed like forever but it goes by fast, soon you'll be done! Best wishes Heart
