Topic: Aspirin Therapy Posted: Sep 25 2010 at 4:58pm |
I was asking my onc what I could do as far as continued tx after rads and he suggested one baby aspirin a day.
So, I was curious if anyone here takes an aspirin regiment to help prevent or if you've heard any advice against the aspirin?
TIA and God bless.

I take a baby aspirin everydAy with my onc's blessing. There is compelling evidence that a connection exists between a higher percentage of recurrence of bc to those not on aspirin.

Do you ladies take the coated ones or does it matter? I think the EC tabs are to prevent stomach upset. I can't imagine there'd be any difference as far as effectiveness - coated vs. not coated.

You're right, there's no difference as far as the aspirin goes, but the coated ones are easier on the stomach. I take a baby aspirin, 81 mg, coated each day. Dr. Scheiber, in his Anticancer book talks about the benefits of aspirin due to it's anti-inflammation benefit. http://www.anticancerways.com/what.html

My Onc at MSK really only suggested two things: a baby aspirin a day, and no drinking ( I pleaded for one glass of wine a week, and she looked disapproving, but I'm taking my one glass a week anyway.)

My doc has me taking a full strength aspirin 5 days a week. I asked if he meant baby aspirin and he said no. At this point I will take anything he tells me to.

I take: aspirin, Vit D3, Selenium, Iodine and fish oil...
Take in blueberries and broccoli daily all w/ a little Flax seeds sprinkled on them.
And most of all I live stress free. I don't let stuff bother me anymore. For once in my life I am important.

Amen, Fighter.
My last go-round I was taking care of my grandmother who had horrible dementia and I couldn't get anyone to help me with my children while I had tx. They were too "busy".
This time, it's all about me. My grandmother passed in May and if my oldest has to miss school so I can have tx, then so be it. Someone else is going to have to miss out on something trivial so that I can survive.
God bless each and every one of us.

Hi Kim, how did you find out you had a recurrence? Scans or you felt something?

I felt it while I was in the shower. I always wash my breasts with my bare hands and a liquid soap. It's so much easier to feel changes that way. It's about the size of a pea.
I'd had a clear PET just 2 months ago and when I went in for imaging of the new lump, it didn't show on the mammogram. My tissue is really dense and it just blended right in there. It did show on u/s though.

Oh ok. Thank you for letting me know. Good thing you found it. I have had bi-mx with reconstruction and it is hard to feel any lumps because it is so lumpy there anywhere with all the scar tissue. I had felt a pea sized lump about a month ago and the ultrasonographer thought it was just scar tissue. I guess it was too small to do a biopsy.

Thanks Donna.
I'll be asking my onc about it again.
Can you take it during chemo?

Kim,
I don't believe you're supposed to take aspirin while on chemo. You might want to ask your onc about it but that's what I remember.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Isn't there a slight risk of bleeding associated with certain chemos anyway?
