I just finished my 4th chemo treatment (TC) and am experiencing neuropathy...fingers and toes are asleep and tingly, and both my arms and my legs are painful, expecially in the morning, have no strength in my arms or legs, and difficult to even carry my purse.
I'm taking B6 and B12, tylenol, but doesn't seem to be giving me any relief. My doctor has suggested I try glutamine (powder) 3x a day.
Anyone out there experiencing this? Appreciate any input.

I had it and it does get better...my fingers are back to normal but Istill have some in my toes..but small price to pay for getting better :) Nothing helped me at the time but once I was done with chemo it slowly got better. I remember getting out the step stool on day to wash some windows ( I was feeling pretty good between treatments ) I tried to step up on it and did not have the strength in my legs to do it. I sat down and cried thinking that I would always be that way but of course I am now doing those windows Tongue Hang in there it will get better.

Good Morning, I finished chemo on September 4, 2012. I first had cytoxin and adriamycin every 21 days X 4. Then I had 12 weekly taxol treatments. I have neuropathy in my fingers and hands and worse in my toes and feet. I experience muscle pain in my arms and legs. I also feel that my hearing and eyesight has diminished. Chemo brain is bad. I have people finishing my sentences, while I am search my brain looking for words.
How long does it take to get my senses back. The Dr says, "in time" it should lessen.
I fall because I can't feel my feet. I drop things.  I am a surgical medical assistant on medical leave since my surgent December 2011
How can I go back to work if I can't feel the instruments?

PHCA,

I used B6 100 mg twice a day.  It took a year after treatment stopped before my symptoms got better.  I never used it, but other members have tried and said glutamine works too.  I was told to try 4 tsps 3 times a day.

Dear amawmaw,

Glad to hear you are finished with your treatments.  I'm also welcome you to the TNBC site.  I had the same chemo that you had and it left me with quite a bit of neuropothy.  It was at least a year before my neuropathy became 'manageable'....  I had to learn my limitations.  I know this is not what you want to hear and Donna has posted a couple of things you may try.

Some people do not experience the neuropathy as much as others.

I don't totally understand your job, but could you go back with a lesser demanding role for a while.  Maybe things will go better than you think.

As you can tell; we Understand.  Keep posting and let us know how things go for you.

God Bless,
Lillie

I tried every prescription and supplement that was suggested by my medical team.  At one point I was on Lyrica at night, Alpha Lipotin and L-Arginine plus Metanx which is a bioavailable form of B6,B12, folic acid that's prescribed for diabetic neuropathy.  I finished chemo in April and my neuropathy was there but not terribly significant - more a nuisance and reminder. I slowly weaned off the supplements as I finished the bottles sometime in May/June and I stayed on the Lyrica and Metanx until mid-summer (it was helping my hair grow!!).  Now I'm just on a regular vitamin B complex.  I have nothing in my hands, occasional stinging in feet, especially at night.  I started working out with a cancer fitness specialist in May to strengthen my legs and increase endurance and I'm back to 100% - maybe even stronger than I was preop!
