Good morning everyone! Hope you are all well this morning. I recieved my last Taxol treatment two weeks ago and I am still so stiff and sore, I feel like a 90 year old woman! I had four treatments of A/C spaced two weeks apart and four treatments of Taxol spaced two weeks apart.  I wanted to know if anyone else experienced the soreness and stiffness this long after the treatment. Of course the first thing I am thinking is that the beast has spread! Can anyone put my mind at ease?

Thank you,
Mary

I hope I can put your mind at ease.  I finished treatments in January and definitely felt like a 90 year old woman for months.  I still feel that way, but it is getting better. My onc said the treatments cause inflammation in the joints causing an arthritic like condition, and it can take awhile for this to improve.  Exercise and drink plenty of water!! Hope this helps

Jesusfan - thank you, I am pretty sure my Dr. said the same thing but you know how it can be when dealing with cancer - every ache and pain and your mind goes wild. Thank you again!

I finished Taxol last May and still am stiff in upper arms and legs. I skipped last treatment as was to Level 3 and would risk being permanent damage. I have done yoga and still stretch and walk but is hard. I was told effects for chemo and radiation could last for a year and then what you had is what you had....

Dear Mary,

Yes, I'm definitely in that 90 year old group right now.  I finished back in March and things ache and hurt all over.  My back, my arms, even the areas where I had my surgeries.  Tylenol is my new friend. Smile

Over the last month and a half, I have forced myself (emphasis on the forced) to walk and hike as much as I can, even though my bod is complaining the day afterward.  I think each time it gets a bit better.  I absolutely refuse to let this poison dictate what I can and can't do!  Yes, my feet are still numb and I have to be careful when I walk.  But I do walk!

This is my second time around (had small recurrences in both breast and ovarian) and I'd say Taxol probably took it out of me more than anything else I've had.  So don't feel alone, hon, and don't feel like you're never going to get better.  It does take time.  And if you're like me, you're not the patient type. Wink
Diane

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all

I'm a year out and I went to the chiropractor yesterday because I was so achy all over I just couldn't stand it. He did some adjustments and I feel like a new woman! It's good to keep in mind that chemo really knocks your muscles out of the ballpark and so your joints don't have the benefit of well conditioned muscles to help keep everything in place so it's easy for joints to get out of alignment and then inflammed. Arthritis can follow.

I really hadn't paid attention to how bad it had gotten, but noticed that I kept falling down when I was hiking and it was because my joints were locking up so I'd trip and couldn't get my feet back under me to right myself.

Keep in mind that after treatments your body is also trying to build back up its white and blood counts and that's taxing on the bones & the muscles.
