I am searching everywhere for this answer and thought I would come straight to this forum.  I am 9 months post my last chemo and want to get my hair (yes, it is BACK) highlighted.  Is that safe?  I have searched so many sights and continue to get different answers.  My appointment is tomorrow with my normal hairdresser and she is not concerned about adding highlights.  Not an all over color, just highlights of blonde since my hair came back mousy colored (almost a non color).  But I will not complain because it is BACK!!!! Just need some advice, have I waited long enough?

Thanks, Penny

Hello Penny. You will feel great after that first hair highlight session! I had mine highlighted and bleached just a few months after finishing chemo. Really when it was long enough that I felt comfortable going public with short hair. My oncologist told me it was ok to do. Not so much the hair as much as skin ready for,the harshness. So if your skin is good you are likely ok to proceed.

Non-color is the best description of post chemo hair ever I colored mine 6 months post chemo with no issues. It was def a morale booster!

Hi Penny,

I waited about 4 months after finishing chemo to have my hair colored.  It was maybe an inch or so long and pure white.  My hairdresser colored my entire hair and had to redo the top section as the color didn't take the first time.  Coloring was only a problem the first time and after that, the color would take.

Hi Penny
I am a hairdresser and I would have no problem highlighting your hair. I have only had one client that turned a weird color, and that was with color, not bleach. Enjoy!
Big hugs, Elisa
