There are Stage III survivors on here, they'll respond I'm sure. In the mean time, go up above to the search box and type " stage III " in to see past discussions. If you find folks there you can PM them, they might get an email alert then, if they aren't checking here regularly. That's why I've been around lately, I got a PM from someone. And my 5th anniversary of my surgery rolled around :) I wasn't stage III, but IIb so close - and I'm NED. You can beat this!

Yes, you can survive !!  Diagnosed Stage IIIb in August of 2011 with several nodes and mammary glands involved. Tumor was over 4 cm.  Completed 12 weekly rounds of Cistplatin and Taxol and 90 days of oral Everolimos.  Unilateral mastectomy with 13 lymph nodes taken (1 still showed signs of cancer) and then
4 rounds of A/C every two weeks.  Finished with 30 rounds of radiation on May 21, 2012.  PET scan in June of 2012 showed NED, PET scan in October of 2012 showed NED and PET scan in June of 2013 showed NED.  Saw oncologist first week of February and was told last 4 month visit in June of 2014 and
on to 6 month visits after that.

Sending positive thoughts your way !!  If you need to talk, email me privately.  I'm here for you as well as all of these great ladies and men.

Hi Jackie,

There are lots of Stage 3 survivors out there.  I was Stage 1, but had a recurrence that was dx as Stage 3.  I'm almost 3 1/2 years from the second diagnosis.

What type of chemo are you getting now?

The end of March will be my 5 year mark from ending surgery, May will be my 5 year mark from the dbl mast. I'm always wary of calling myself a survivor as it feels like I'm tempting the Fates.

As you can see from my signature, I had an extremely large tumor, I almost named it after my ex brother in law. I survived this long partially because of good luck, mostly from the guidance of my family here and doctors who agreed that it was imperative to throw the most stringent treatment we could eek out at my situation.

What I've learned is that it's important to never let your guard down, ask more questions than you ever thought you had in you and then ask some more.

Take good care of yourself, hug your family and friends and drink lots of water every day!

Hello Mary Ann (grma),
So good to hear from you and know that you are doing well.  You are truly an inspiration to any Stage III with positive lymph nodes who read your posts.  There are new girls joining the site everyday with similar diagnoses.  You are a blessing to them and to ME...

God Bless,
Lillie

I have stage 3, 12/23 lymph nodes were positive. I'm nearing my 5th TAC chemo session. So glad to see your comments, and that this might be survivable. :)

Doctor told me my prognosis will be 48.9% to live 10 years, after all treatments. Surgery (lumpectomy, 23 aux lymph nodes removed / 12 positive, 6 rounds of TAC, and then radiation, followed by more surgery as didn't get clear margins). I'm very stressed.

jtown, have you considered getting a second opinion? Carboplatin added to your chemo regimen or cisplatin with your radiation? My oncologist said that if my pathology didn't come back clean after my mastectomy, that she could've added cisplatin to my radiation. I also had carboplatin added to my taxol. Many women seek 2nd opinions. Will your 2nd surgery be a mastectomy?

I asked about carboplatin, but they told me that it would be too toxic with the TAC regime I'm on. They give it to women having neoadjuvant chemo - it's a lighter regime. All of the doctors at the Cross Cancer meet with each other before deciding on a regime, so a second opinion doesn't seem possible. I'll ask my radiologist when I meet him. I'm leaning toward a mastectomy now.
