Hi,

Does anyone have a good web site or resource to look for scarves (perhaps large cotton), how to tie the knots, hats with hair attached etc.  I didn't wear anything while going through chemo but my mother would like to have a few alternatives to her wig(s). Thanks in advance for any information.

I love the Beaubeau scarf I purchased online.  It was a little pricey to me, but I wore the heck out of it.  I like the ones made of jersey knit over the silk ones.  They are snug on your head-no slipping, more comfortable than a wig, no tying necessary and you can wear them different ways.  I don't have the website name, but you can google 'beaubeau'.

On numerous occasions fellow patients at MDA stopped me to ask where I purchased my scarf.

Thank you  - I will look that up - I also suggested to my mom she call on one of the many "islanders" living here for hints on tying the scarves. The Bahama's are really close to where we live and the women have some beautiful ways to wear scarves.

Blair,

The Gaila Fund website is a great resource.
http://www.gailafund.org/site/index.php

For a Free Gaila Scarf:

To tie a Gaila Scarf.....or maybe any other scarf:

Tips for tying head scarf:

Note: To the right of the screen showing this video are many other videos of
               using head scarves, etc.
Video made by a news reporter who was treated for breast cancer.

--------------------------------------------

Soft hats:
http://www.softhats.com/
A friend gave me this resource. They really do have the softest of hats/turbans!
If you call the number, the owner (with a history of breast cancer) calls you back.
She helped me pick the best choice for me......she asked a few questions and
suggested which hats would be best for me.......and she was right.
I have no financial connection with this place. Highly recommend them.

With caring and positive thoughts to you and your mother,

Grateful for today..............Judy

TLC has lots of hats, scarfs, wigs, head bands.  Some hats and head bands have hair strands that makes it appear that you have hair.

I shopped the TLC catalogue and website a lot during my cancer.

I lived in "buffs." These are basically long tubes of patterned fabric that you can wear in different ways. You can get them at REI stores, and sahalie.com has a large selection online. There are videos on youtube showing different ways to wear them. I always wore a terrycloth "scarf liner" underneath to add volume, traction, and absorbency. Buffs are very useful once your hair grows back also - as headband, scarf, neck "gater", etc. I also wore scarves from http://www.anokhiusa.com/. These are all cotton block print scarves from India with some beautiful patterns.
Tested positive for BRCA1 mutation (187delAG) in 4/09 @ age 44; BSO 9/09; diagnosed w/TNBC in 10/09; 1 cm Stage 1 TNBC IDC, grade 3 + 1.5 cm DCIS; BMX 11/09, nodes clear; chemo (AC/T).
