Subject: How many had mom's with Rh Negative Blood
Date Posted: Mar 17 2010 at 11:31pm
I know this may sound a bit crazy, but I found out today that 15% of women have some kind of Rh negative blood.  Put that together with 15% of breast cancer is TNBC and it makes one wonder.

I have Rh negative blood and my Heather has TNBC.  Coincidence?  I know most of you won't know what your mom's blood type was; but there must be a few who do.

Can we take a survey?

Bonnie

Pam,

You are Rh positive.  I researched and they said that if you are D-neg you are Rh negative.

Did you have more than one child?  If you have Rh negative blood and you give birth to a baby with Rh posiitve blood, you must have a Rhogam shot which prevents you from creating antibodies to Rh positive blood.  If you don't get the shot and form antibodies, your second, third,.... babies will get hemolytic disease.  The antibodies your blood produce will literally attack your next babies' blood.

If you didn't have the Rhogam shot, then you most likely don't have Rh negative blood.

Bonnie

I guess I did this survey wrong.  Good thing I am not a researcher.  I guess the question should be with blood type are you or your mother.  I will then find out how many people are not negative related.  I am going to check out the survey.

Bonnie,

You didn't bother us with your survey.  It was a good question.   I think we all strive to understand why we got tnbc and come up with a common element that affects us all.

Hi,

I used the same critical thinking to diagnose my family with an auto immune disease "AS" that is associated with RH- people and the HLA-B27 genetic marker. Rh- peple represent 15% of the population with about 7% being O- and the HLA-B27 was found in 8% of the population, both decreasing in percentage outside of the Caucasian ethnic backgrounds.  My mom had BAD un diagnosed pain, swelling and other symptoms, but could not prove RA, MS, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, etc through the test.  3 years into diagnostics and I come to the Dr.'s with an outside of the box idea, a virtual needle in a haystack, they test her and she is positive for the gene mutation, as am I....

You can read more about it at http://www.RhNegativeRegistry.com - www.RhNegativeRegistry.com - I am actually working on a research project that looks into these issues.  You can click here to take this anonymous survey > http://www.RhNegativeRegistry.com/rh-negative-survey-1.html - www.RhNegativeRegistry.com/rh-negative-survey-1.html .  Trying to find the information medical professionals are not handing out, in an effort to see us self educate our families to this issue and protect our future generations.

I have also read that people with types A & O are more prone to cancer... There is a "Conspiracy" guy who says that it has to do with an imbalance in the blood and that it can be cured by rebalancing the blood.  Still researching and putting all the information together.  Please stop by the forums at the Rh Negative Connection on the site and start a NEW thread about this subject, you will reach many others and we can start to get to the bottom of these questions, maybe even find some real answers. Wink

Just curious about your quote.  Does this mean that only 14 people have BRCA2 or just a special type of BRCA2?  It sounds very rare indeed.

You do not have to pay anything, answer any questions or join anything to see the free information on the site.  It is enough for you to start researching on your own.  Yes Rh Negative Blood IS rare and yes in cases of emergency, they will look for blood matches in unconventional places but they will still follow procedure to collect, type and match it properly; especially in those places with extreme shortages like the Philippines.  We are a worldwide network of available donors, willing to help.  In fact you can join without even giving your name....nothing peculiar there...

I was just going through the posts and I am curious if Rhogam (sp) doesn't have some effect.  You know how years after you find out that the medicine they gave you really hurt you.  There are so many here that posted that either their mom or themselves are RH-.  This means that somehow Rhogam got in your blood whether through the womb or directly.  Some even two generations before.
I don't know but just thinking out loud.  It's crazy how we just have to know "WHY".  My therapist says I have to stop WHYING so much or I will drive myself crazy.  And I am not the one who had breast cancer.

there are also plenty of us that don't fit this category....or any other. For myself...I did have to just accept what is. What helped with that was talking to genetic counselors when I had BRCA testing done back in probably 2003.

I believe Mom was positive (because I never heard her talk about having to get a shot for any of her 5 pregnancies). Mom died of bladder cancer in 2010, GRHS.

We don't have children, my blood is B+. My sister has two children and I don't remember any discussion about either of her pregnancies and any need to have shots, nor do I remember anything in that vein with regard to her daughter's three pregnancies, so I guess we are all positives. By the way, there is no known breast cancer in our family, except for me. I do not have BRCA1 mutation, and a BRCA2 mutation of unknown variant...

It would be nice to see all these answers in tabular format, so that any correlations could be quickly analyzed.

Take care, everyone.

Deborah.

I am Rh- and both my children are positive. I think my mother is negative also. A lot of us seem to be Rh- .

My mom was rh- and got bc around 34-35 yrs of age maybe younger....she had me and then a miscarriage before she got the rhogam shot. I always assumed bc of that and her assumption that I was rh+ but I was tested when I got pregnant with my first child 10 yrs ago and was also rh-

So not sure if either of my kids are forgot to ask. I just got diagnosed tnbc two weeks ago

Hmmmmmm quite odd. My mom died from breast cancer in 1989 at age 38 because she was stage 4 prob at initial dx. We have no idea what kind of cancer or genetics. My genetics results aren't back til hopefully next week by my cancer review board on Wednesday

My tumor is 1-1.3cm, stage 1, grade 3. MRI Sunday morning. Tumor review board Wednesday afternoon. Ultra sound shows no node involvement and tumor is not palpable in its deep location.

I am a bit off  on the count since I am not sure if your blood type is the same as your RH.  But approximately 25 ladies who posted on here (not their mothers), are RH negative.  Only 10 were positive.  With it being a relatively rare thing could there be a tie somehow.

Any of the blood types can be + or - rh.
Since we don't know what kind of tumor my mom had not sure how to count that. But I'm triple neg and rh- blood type.

Hi Patticakes49, glad you found this forum but sorry you have to be here. I hope you feel welcome and will meet the wonderful people here soon that I have also found to be incredibly supportive.

I see you're having surgery in a week, I pray that all will go well. Of course you're overwhelmed, there's a lot that goes on when one receives a cancer diagnosis. We'll do our best to support you, answer your questions and listen, ok?

For the record, I am Rh negative and so is my Mom. My oldest daughter is Rh+ while the youngest one if Rh-. Hmm, I do see a trend here, very interesting......
