Hello all,

I was on this forum before under a different name but I forgot it and made this one up, and when we were going through radiation treatment at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, my wife and I met a member through this web site.

I was wondering if you have met any of this web sites members in person and how did it go?

Does anyone know anybody in the Pacific Northwest.

Dave

If there is anyone else close by, give me a hollar.(that's southerneze for, let me know) LOL

I am surprised this thread hasn't generated more comments. My computer has had major glitches so have not been on much. A group of us from the bay area of Ca. have been meeting for over a year now. With great success. We meet rather randomly, every 6- 8 weeks, maybe less. We pick a spot, hopefully fairly central to encompass those with greater distances. We have anywhere from 5-10 show up. It has been great communicating with others that live our reality. Getting new perspectives. I would say we are mostly social, with a liberal sprinkling of cancer. Especially humor. Any from the bay area are welcome to join us. Let us know who you are.

Hi everyone,

I have not met anyone face to face yet. Who besides myself lives in North Carolina? It would be neat for us Tar Heels to get together.

My husband and I are attending a convention Feb. 12th in Asheville, NC. We will be staying at the "Grove Park Inn"... Anyone here live in that area?

Just a thought!

love in Christ,

Lillie

PS: Yoo Hoo Carol, how far are you from Asheville?

Hello Cathy and welcomeHug...I'm so sorry that you have need of this site but I'm so happy to be here for you on your journey. Wonderful to come here to vent, to share, to encourage, to be encouraged and to not feel like you are all alone in this.

Yes, that's what it means....I had a recurrence just below the incision on my chest wall. I had a biopsy and it was a recurrence of primary tumor. The tumor had unclear margins. Went back for surgery, chest wall excision. I went for full body scan and bone scan in Jan and they were clear. I will see my onc. for a checkup on Tuesday. I will get blood tests and exam.
Sorry it's taken me so long to answer but it was a beautiful day and I stayed out most of it.
I don't know of anyone else from TN on the site.
When will your chemo start and what will it be. Mine was dose dense Adrimyacin/Cytoxen x4 then Taxetere x4 given bi-weekly. Then 35 radiation treatments.
If there's anything else I can help you with, just let me know.
You have found a wonderful, caring, thoughtful and knowledgeable community here It has been a blessing to me. I just wish I would have found it earlier.
Take care and have a wonderful evening, that is if you're still up.
We also have a Spiritual Support thread if that's something you might want to look into.
Love and Prayers,
Carol

Dear Kathy,
I was born and raised in Chicago but only have my sisters left there. My sister Gail is a 15 year survivor but not TN. I know there are several here from Illinois but I don't remember exactly who they are. Try posting on another board that is read more frequently like WELCOME NEW MEMBERS OR TNBC TALK.

SmileI am in Ohio but could drive out of state.  I have never met anyone else with TNBC and all my friends have told me that since my treatment is done, I should be "over it" and moved on.  I can't discuss my life with them and can't seem to find a support network.  Would love to meet with anyone or chat online/phone.  I am 45.

I live in SE Oklahoma.

I have met another member, Myrna who lives nearby.  We met for last year's Komen walk in Oklahoma City and had a ball.  Also met Elizabeth and her sister.  They were in Tulsa on business and drove down to my house, 2 hrs to have lunch with us.  What lovely women.

Also have met Steve, he is the same amazing man as he is in the forum. Funny, warm, charming and genuine.  Couldn't wait to give him a big hug.  We met for dinner while he was in Dallas, all of us driving to meet in the middle.  My husband and youngest daughter also were there.  Steve and my daughter clicked and I was so relieved that she was/is receptive to his help with her having my brca 1 mutation.
Also have met many of the Foundation members all of whom are so dedicated to the fight to get rid of this disease.  A year ago last February they flew me and my oldest daughter out to New Jersey to speak at their fundraiser, Tea & Talk, it was all just fabulous and they are all very nice, young hard workers.

Meeting even 3 people from the forum is amazing considering I live in the middle of nowhere.Heart

Hello all,

I do have plans to meet face to face with Lori (Overwhelmed) in Greenville, SC at some future date. She lives very, very close to where my daughter lives and I'll be going there sometime soon.

I'm Also, Leaving On a Jet Plane.
Don't Know When I'll Be Back Again.
Going to see Carol in Tennessee (sometime) (This is a BIG DREAM, but it is possible)

So, God Willing, I'll get to meet some of my precious TNBC friends face to face.

Hi Laura,
I too live in a northern suburb of Atlanta looking for other women who have breast cancer.  I was disgnosed on 4/13/10 with IDC, triple negative, Stage 1 grade 2, breast cancer.  No nodes were positive.  Haven't found a support group or someone else that is experiencing the same thing that I am.  I will be having my last chemo treatment on the 11th and can't wait to be done with chemo.
Would love to hear from you...hope you are doing well.

Good Morning Karen  Hug
Welcome to our community. It's sad that we have to be here at all but this is a community of women on "the journey." You will find the most loving, caring, knowledgeable people ready and willing to lend support in any way we can.
This is a wonderful place to "be with" others that are facing the same experiences as you did or will be doing. It's a place where you can vent, as we all sometimes do or let us know about upcoming treatment or test results or praise reports. Speaking of which, I'd like to invite you to visit our Spiritual Support thread if that's something you might be interested in.
It will be a milestone to reach your last tx and I know you will celebrate. Will you be taking radiation?
If you will go to Member Control Panel you will find a place to enter your stats in the Signature area. It will keep you from having to answer the same questions over and over again as each of our members respond.
Again, WELCOME!
Love and Prayers,
Carol  Heart

Hi Carol,
Hope you are doing well today.  thanks for the information about where to put my description...I think I have it fixed now.
I would be interested in your spiritual thread so if you want, you can send me the info.
Do I understand that you have had a return of your cancer?  My doctor has told me that with triple negative cancer if will return sooner than later.  I have to admit that that scares me to death to have it return.  How are you doing?  Are you in any treatments right now?  I pray that it will go away for good. Please hang in there!
I look forward to talking with other women who has this disease.  We are strong and we will get through this.Smile

You too Tech Girl.  Once Lillie comes our way, we can all meet.  I do have a friend from Greenville who is TN and a little over three years out.  We met after finding from another friend that we had this in common.  She's been a great support for me.  For those of us recently diagnosed it is great to see people like her and like Lillie who are a few years past treatment.

Karen,

Yes, I've had a recurrence. One year practically to the day from my original diagnosis. I took another round of radiation with it. I had a scare last month, had it biopsies and it was negative...!
I am doing great now. The fatigue gets better all the time.
The Spiritual Support thread is right here on tnbcf. Just clk on the "Forum Jump" in the lower left corner and clk on Support Groups and then Spiritual Support. Look forward to seeing you there.
If you have any other questions that I or someone else can help with, don't hesitate to ask.
Try not to scared about recurrence. We can spend the rest of our life being scared, worrying and all the other useless things or we can look forward to each new day and live it to the fullest. Believe me I know it's easier said than done. But it's something I try to do each and every day and I hope you will too. And you know, this is a great place to vent those fears...I've done it a few times myself..ha...Moi???? Yep, sure have!!
Love and Prayers,
Carol

Lori-Yes! I would love to join you guys!  Have car, will travel:).  Depending on the traffic, it may take me a bit longer to get to Greenville area, but that's OK, it would be SO worth it to meet some of my very special sisters.

Karen-we're neighbors!  I live in Johns Creek.  There HAVE to be more of us in a big city like Atlanta.  Maybe you and I can get together and start from there.  It looks like our diagnosis and treatment was similar.  So glad that you found us even though I wish it wasn't because of tnbc!

Hi Karen and welcome,

Congratulations on approaching your last infusion.  That last day when you step out of that chair feels sooo good.

It's pretty hard to find other tn's out there, another reason why this forum works so well since we can come together from around the world.

How have you been doing, getting along pretty well or having problems with your chemo?

I want you to remember that this does not come back to everyone.  The first few years after treatment they will watch you closely then your chance of it coming back starts to drop.

I have had tn twice, 2003 and 2007, now out over 3 years from the second time.  I plan on being done with it this time.Wink

Look forward to hearing from you,

No one here has heard of TNBC, I even had to explain it to two other BC patients!!  Wow, I am glad I found this site!  I think it would be a good idea to make up a map of where we all are from!!

I would think that admin could do this for us as a separate page in the Forum.  They would be the only ones to update the map due to programming but we certainly can send our locations to them to pin mark the map for us to view.  This could be something to ask for too.
What do you think?  Set up a forum to survey this question? h.

Hi All,

I have also been in touch with Dawn in Greenville, NC. We live about 40 miles apart, so I feel sure she and I will be getting together sometime. ALSO, I have a friend in Paris, TN named Carol French... Does that name sound familiar to anyone???? She and I are going to meet one day also. Sooner or later. Earth or Heaven. Man...I am dreaming BIG??? I better check my bank account.

It doesn't hurt to dream. Usually, if my brain works long enough on a plan, with God's help, sometimes it comes to fruition.

Love,

It is true very few ppl know what triple negative is, sadly...
I love the connection with others on this site.
Sometimes I feel this is a new york site, resources, founders etc.
I think 85% of ppl are positive and only 15% are negative.
So of course the money for cancer goes to the 85%. I wish we could
see money is really being spent on ther 15% It is my understanding
that the para is for recurrance. There still is nothing for prevention after
chemo. What do you think???

Hi Vickyann!

We are neighbors! I live in San Antonio and there is one other woman on here from San Antonio also. She is going to meet with me when I have chemo next Thursday. We have already talked on the phone. I have been to MD Anderson and have come home to have my treatments with the Start Cancer Center here in the Medical Center on the Northwest side. Feel free to drop me an email if you want to chat! my email is mailto:mjhoover@gmail.com - mjhoover@gmail.com I am also noticing that there is little research on TN. I just got dxed with recurrence to lungs, a couple lymph nodes and abdomen. A little of the tumor (30%) is Estrogen positive in the abdomen and 10% in the lung they biopsied at MDA. The oncologist I saw is a specialist and resarcher in TNBC. Her name is Dr. Gonzalez Alulo (not sure I have the second name spelled right). She has been doing research for several years on TNBC and it does seem to be the up and coming research. They had a symposium about TNBC at the Breast Cancer lecure series here in 2008. A bunch of oncologists come from all over to learn about breast cancer and it is held in December of each year right here in San Antonio. I am going to see if I can attend this year especially with all the clinical trials out there for Parp Inhibitors. I have to have one recurrence 'fail' before I can get into a Parp Clinical trial. I am currently on Avastin and Abraxane to see if the tumors will shrink and eventually go into remission. That is the hopel I have just completed my second round of chemo have one more to go and one week off, then do it all over again. Time will tell! Good to meet another Texan on here:) MJ

Dave.......I'm in Vancouver, B.C.-- CANADA.....recently retired school teacher- who is going through recurrence of tnbc after late 1996 original.
I will probably have surgery soon for the swelling near/around my collar bone--which became worse during a 3/4 dose of oral capecitabine (xeloda)---broke through the skin--became necrotic gradually---even while on another chemo
I have good doctors-- but...?
If you want.. you could PM me, and even share your phone number ( I wouldn't bother you---I'm too busy)

I have not met anyone from this forum...but I have met two women that were on the Komen forums with me.  This past summer I traveled to NH to spend time with a former college roommate...and she was kind enough to drive me to Maine to meet my Komen friend.  Another friend was traveling to Long Island to visit an elderly aunt in an assisted living facility...and she was kind enough to stop on the way to have lunch with another Komen friend.

We had all gone through chemo/radiation during the same time period...it was fun to meet each other, talk, compare length of hair, curls, gray, etc.  I hope to meet yet another person in MD this fall.  I will be traveling to a convention in Baltimore.

I would highly recommend taking the opportunity to do this....of course, keeping safety in mind!!  The first trip, my friend was with me...but we did go to the person's home.  I had so much communication with her on both Komen and FB that I felt it was "safe".  The second person we met at a diner...both convenient and safe!!  (My children were concerned about this aspect of the meetings!)

I live in New Jersey.

Hi Carol,

I don't know how many miles for me, but I can get a flight from Raleigh/Durham to Nashville for $124.00.   So count me in if it comes to pass.

God Bless,
Lillie

I am going to Atlanta in April...  for my 50th birthday... never been there and met friends there that have a home on the lake....(don't ask me which lake)  LOL.  I am looking forward in going.  I am going to stay about a week, so if anyone wants to meet up then, that lives in GA... let me know...
We will all plan a group hug event!!
I haven't met anyone here in Reno yet!!

Hi Carol,

Man, this is sounding good to me. A group of TN sisters all in the same place at the same time. WOW

As for being able to keep me. If I get a one way ticket (Don) would have to come with me. He says if I ever leave him, he is coming too. If I get a round trip ticket, I think I could persuade him to stay behind for a few days......... Although, once I flew to spend a week with my daughter in SC and my son called and said, "Mamma, when are you coming home? Daddy is pitiful without you". I didn't know whether to be happy or mad. A grown man who can't fend for himself for a week is "pitiful".....

God Bless,
Lillie
