Hello!

Diagnosed last month, TNBC Stage 3a, no genetic mutations and no cancerous tumors in breast. Has anyone else had positive axilla lymph nodes only?

I began A/C chemo last week. Plan is A/C every other week for 2 months, a 3 week break and then Carboplatin and something else (?) for 12 weeks then at some point I need an axilla lymph node dissection. Mastectomy is possible as well. Anyone choose not to have mastectomy when no tumors are present in the breast?

Grateful for this site and forum! :)

Can not help in your decision. Have your team recommended a mastectomy ? If you have an Mastectomy is there any reason you could not have reconstruction.Have they suggested chemo prior to surgery?  Have you gone to a University hospital.  You need to have a second and third opinion.  If not you need to consider having one. Take you for your post. Hoping for others to post to your request.

Hello! I definitely am not having your experience, but it sounds like a fairly standard chemo regime for TNBC. The something else you mentioned is probably taxol, right?

I personally am having a mastectomy, but I had a large tumor and I am ATM (genetic mutation) positive.

I second what Monica says - do you have a second opinion? I went as far as to see two medical oncologists and two surgeons before feeling confident in my treatment plan.

If you need help finding doctors in your state or area that are specialists in TNBC, there's a list here:  http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/oncologist-recommendations-from-members_topic5721.html" rel="nofollow - http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/oncologist-recommendations-from-members_topic5721.html

I will definitely seek a 2nd opinion. I know a double mastectomy is the best way to prevent it from coming back, but I also want as little surgery as possible.

Thank you for your responses!

There's a type of breast cancer with no primary site.  There have been a few members post about it.  Here's a thread from a few years ago:

Hello
My daughter age 24 just returned from air force and was dx with TBNC nov.15. she starts chemo this Friday. I am new to forum. She is being treated at the facility I work at currently. I am an registered nurse of 15yrs. I have so many concerns. We have gotten an second opinion. thank goodness the breast institutes diagnosed this because the military base kept her on antibiotics for weeks. it is aggressive. she will be starting A/C every other week, then taxol. I will ask the doctor about adding platin chemo. the second opinion recommended this and will lessen chance of cancer coming back. it does however increase the neurogenic effects along with platin drugs. Make sure the doctors follow the NCCS guidelines.
