Hang in there Lee! You are now officially through the worst of it, IMHO! Taxol was a walk in the park for me compared to AC. We will be hoping that it is the same for you and that the MRI is promising!!
Deb
p.s. and SO glad to see you got that pesky blood draw done! Falls into the what they don't know won't hurt them category!

Hi Lee,
Just touching base with you to see how your last AC cycle went. I just had my second TAC yesterday. It went much better, in no small part due to the many good suggestions from this site. Prior to, my blood counts, etc. all looked good. They went ahead and gave me 2 mg ativan before anything else, and the whole thing went much smoother...of course I pretty much slept the whole time, but even in the evening, my nausea was better, and I slept better. Today I had a BM in the AM (yippee!), thanks to yesterday's raisin brain and Miralax. More raisin bran and Miralax this morning with my meds: zofran, dex, emend, and then a neulasta shot tonite. I will also take some claritin this evening following the neulasta shot. I found I felt much better during week 2, but crashed a little on Friday of that week, most likely due to the Neulasta. I just rested more and took ibuprofin, and that seemed to do the trick. Was pretty active that weekend, and week 3 I was just as active as I ever am. Tried to get a lot of gardening in (it's been a warm winter here in NC, and the weeds are already taking over my garden), and some house work, just in case I was laid out. So far so good.
Where did you get your B6? I couldn't find it at Costco, but I think the hospital pharmacy has it. I'm just looking for a good source that's not outrageously expensive.
Keeping my fingers crossed for you on your MRI!

Hi Turtle,
Really good to hear your second cycle went better than the first. Information from forum members have helped me a lot to get through the whole treatment thing.
I bought B6 at the local Walgreens -- Finest is the brand, B6 100 mg per tablet. I started taking B6 last Friday. I am also planning to take L-glutamine as recommended by forum members (the NP did not have any objections). NP also mentioned acteyl L-carnitine -apparently UM did a small trial not sure what the results were.
I'm getting my Neulasta shot this afternoon. My husband is pretty good at it now, once he's learned to slow down the injection rate. With increasing cycles I noticed that I had more of the head grog/fog -- I can't tell whether it's from the chemo drugs/dexamethasone/Neulasta. I've been trying to stay mentally active -- reading different types of articles .... (in addition to BC and science). Really don't want to get the long term cognitive deficits that have been associated with chemo. The weather here fluctuates quite a bit -- last couple of days it's in the 60s. But we had snow fall before then. The area is notorious for some serious spring blizzards. I can see the spring bulbs coming up. I bought a whole bunch of bulbs and perennials to plant in April. I love the Aurelian lilies (these are the ones that grow to > 6ft and have an incredible subtle fragrance) except for the fact that the squirrels keep digging them up and eating the bulbs -- we have to build squirrel cages around them, even then only 50% survive the planting.
Take care,
Lee

Hey Lee,
When you plant your bulbs, cut a 9-12 inch square of chicken wire and put it and inch or two under the surface, then finish covering it with dirt. The squirrels can't dig through it to get to the bulb and the greens will come up through the holes.
Chemo and gardening tips, all on one site!

The squirrels around my area are so bad, and the damage they do to my bird feeders...my husband got me a BB gun and I shoot them. Got to be a pretty good shot too, but now I feel bad about killing anything. Still, on the days when I'm laying around, I enjoy the birds coming to the feeders, so I broke down and got the gun out again. Hopefully God will forgive me. They are food for some other animal in any case. Circle of life, right?

We may be the only people in the world who built a squirrel feeder and regularly buy squirrel food. I love watching them stick their bodies down into the feeder and I love hearing the click/click of the lid going up and down. Actually the birds eat there, too, when the squirrels aren't around. Just goes to show that it takes all kinds to make the world go around, right?

I get tickled watching the crazy squirrels on our deck. They will literally climb the bird feeder which is attached to a hanging pole on the deck, lay upside down while holding onto the pole, and then eat the bird food. We can't keep the bird food in stock. I quit buying the expensive stuff and now just buy the cheapest bird food I can find!!

i buy the black sunflower seeds which the birds all seem to like, and it's usually not too expensive, but the squirrels don't just eat the food, they destroy the feeders, knocking them to the ground. and meanwhile, we have loads of tasty acorns all over the place...why don't they eat them?

Years ago, we lived in the DC area and had peach trees in our backyard. We would build squirrel cages all the way up to the top of the trunk -- even then we would watch the squirrels climb onto neighboring trees not so protected and then take a flying leap to the peach trees -- not all succeed but some do.
We planted blackberries but that was a lost cause -- never got to them in time, in this case the culprits were birds.
On the subject of wildlife -- we have a converted jacuzzi put in by a previous owner that now serves as a gold fish pond in the summer. For several weeks we could not figure out why in the morning there seems to be a lot of disturbance around the pond and the fish were hiding. One day, our dog was looking towards the roof and lo and behold, there was great blue heron. Guess we know who was doing what!

Hi Deb,
Kerri is doing well. She tires easily, has some residual neuropathy in her fingers and toes, but is otherwise pretty dog-gone good!
I hope your trial destroys the last of your tumor.
All the best, Wade

SE Michiganders -- did everyone survive yesterday's tornado - thunderstorm? The tornado touched down just slightly north of us in Dexter -- we were lucky. The sirens went off, then the lightning, thunder, and hail. Lots of rain. We have trees all around us and were afraid that lightning might strike one of them (we had a tree felled by lightning in our backyard some years ago). Tornadoes are scary -- they weren't even predicting them until someone spotted a funnel cloud a few miles away.

So glad you're safe, Lee. It is very unusual for so many tornados to happen so early in the year -- especially in the northern states. We're more prone to them down here. And, yes, tornados are a scary thing!!

Hi Lee,
These storms passed to the north and south of us. We didn't even get any rain to speak of. We are about midway between Detroit and Port Huron, a few miles from Lake St. Clair.
I saw video of the damage last night. Last I heard there were no reported injuries or deaths. Glad to hear you're OK.
Best regards, Wade

Lee, Wade and DebB,
So glad to hear you all were out of the tornado path.
Hope any other members in that area were also out of the tornado path.
Grateful for today..............Judy
-------------------------------------------
Lee and Turtle and others,
You may already know the following. If not, just a FYI.
Taxanes and Vit B6 and Vit B12.
There is a current clinical trial on the use of Vit B6 and Vit B12 to prevent chemo induced peripheral
neuropathy.......study completion in 2013.
Clincial Trial link: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00659269
Know some members feel glutamine is helpful. I am not an expert but it seems there is a lack of
consensus about glutamine. You were planning on speaking with your MD - always advisable.
See article at link: http://clincancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/7/5/1192.full
Per the article.......note that it was from 2001! Maybe someone else has more recent info on
glutamine to show your MD. Don't know if later articles have resolved the question that
glutamine "might protect the tumor from cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy."
"One concern is that glutamine might protect the tumor from the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapy. In this small series, we have not noted any decrease in response rate or increase in the relapse rate. Furthermore, we did not note any change in paclitaxel pharmacokinetics with glutamine administration
(data not shown) and unpublished data generated by Pharmaceutical Research Institute in mice confirm
our observation."
RE; carnitine. The nutritionist that I spoke with thought any benefit of carnitine was in diabetic
neuropathy.
Basically, since the oncology nutritionist that I spoke with recommended only the Vit B6 during taxol
chemo, I only asked my medical oncologist about Vit B6 (and onc said VIt B6 was fine to take and I
did take Vit B6 prior-during-and for one year after taxol chemo.) Your oncologists may have
other opinions on the glutamine and L carnitine.
With caring and positive thoughts,
Grateful for today...............Judy

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and suggestions. I have to say cycle 4 of AC is the worse -- I am day 6 after infusion and I just can't seem to get over the wooziness, light-headedness, unsteadiness which I think may be from the anemia. I am off Emend, Dex and anti-emetics, just vitamins. I am drinking fluids. My hemoglobin pre-cycle 4 was 9.7 and probably quite a bit lower now. Did you all have the same reactions to cycle 4? I am so not looking forward to the MRI on Monday!

Dear Lee,
so sorry you are having such a tough time..
the only thought I have is for you to check with your oncology nurse and/or supportive care services to see if anyone has an idea that can help you..
warmly,
