Hi there all I would like to introduce my self. I am a 45 year old woman who was diagnosed with TNBC in January last year. I have 3 girls, a 10 year old and 8 year old twins. 20 years ago I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and they think this breast cancer was caused by the radiotherapy I had back then. My tumour was 1.8 mm grade 3, I am not sure of the stage and there was no sign of the cancer in the lymph nodes. I am so glad to have found this site, it doesn't make me feel so alone. I am really struggling with having been diagnosed with another type of cancer and I am totally paranoid about it coming back, to the point where it is in my thoughts constantly. I was just wondering if anyone had some thoughts on how to work though this. I keep myself reasonably fit, and I try to be healthy!
I look forward to being part of this wonderful site.
Lizzie

Lizzie,
Welcome sorry we have to meet on this site but I am sure you will get some chime ins that will be very helpful as for fear of reccurance i myself was probably the worst, I had counsuling for 2 years after my diagnoses and I think that helped some what as time goes on I think it gets a little easier but I don't think with cancer patients it ever goes away maybe for some but not for all. Four and a half years later I am trying to live each and avery day to the fullest and as steve says enjoy the beauty in each day.In general to begin with I am a very nervous person and I am trying to work on that to. I hope I have helped some you are not alone we are here for you. You have had your share of problems and I know you will be strong.
Best of luck to you...
Denise

Dear Lizzie,
welcome to our family and sorry you have need to be here.
I think it is very important to make sure your oncologist is TNBC savvy.
also have you been tested for the BRCA mutation? According to the NCCN guidelines here, every woman under the age of 60 should be tested for this mutation. If you are positive it may affect your treatment plan and it is also important information for your family.
I personally carry it and passed it on to my daughter.
I am certain you will have some feedback from some of the marvelous folks here in an effort to help you.
warmly,
Steve

Hi Lizzie, Glad you found us. This isn't a club you would choose to join, but welcome just the same. The fear of recurrence is one of the major ostacles for all cancer patients I think. I found that what I was most terrified about was what would my family do, if I died. I go to two support groups and individual counceling. There is a book that talks about looking into the sun or I think facing your fears. That fear is still very near for me and I think most of us. I aso have a strong exercise routine and I think that can help also. Again, welcome. Nita

Hi Lizzie,
I am glad that you found us! Your big question about fear of recurrence is well known to all of us and has been discussed here often. With no other targeted therapy available to us, it is a very real fear.
There are several things that are suggested to help decrease your chance of it coming back. Get at least 3 hours of exercise a week. Eat a low fat diet, preferrably under 30 grams of fat a day. Take a baby asprin daily. And many folks swear by yoga, meditation, etc. These are things that we are able to control that often make us feel like we are more in control with what is happening. Others would also suggest having your Vitamin D checked since many of us are low and studies link it to BC. And as Steve always says, try to find the beauty in each day.
I am right there with you- diagnosed nearly a year ago at 46 and have 11 and 13 year old boys. There is nothing that I want to do more than kick this for good!!!

Hello there again, and thank you for the lovely welcomes. Yes it is a difficult time, and I too am overly anxious, always imagining the worse. I will most definitely do the things that Deb suggested, I am trying to build my fitness up, but the taxotere that I was on has left my hips damaged. However it is getting better. I normally go to yoga, but as it is school holidays over here in NZ, I haven't had a chance!! That is ok thought as I enjoy time with my girls.
I have talked to my oncologist re the BRACA testing, but he doesn't seem to think it is necessary as this cancer could be possibly from the radiation I had 20 years ago for lymphoma? I have to admit it does scare me slightly as I have three daughters and would hate the thought of passing something on, also there has been absolutely no one else in my family who has had breast cancer, maybe it was just one of those bad luck things??
Anyway thanks for the feed back, I feel much better having read lots of other people stories, and to know you are not the only one who has had this awful disease .
Regards
Lizzie

Good Morning Lizzie, Welcome to this group. You have found the right place to be. There are so many here and we all need each other. I don't much about your previous cancer so it's not for me to tell you what to do but if you have concerns do the test. Steve can tell you more about it. Steve is our Advocate Angel and is ready and willing to help in this matter and much more. I'm sure he will add more soon. I had a recurrance one year after my dx. I surgery and 28 more radiation tx. It's been almost 4 years since my dx and I do pretty well. I don't really have much fear until it's time for a scan or test or just a check up. I think that's pretty common. I would also like to invite you to join us on the Spiritual Support thread. There you will find a family of believers praying daily for each other. It's a place where you can unload the worries, share the good news and join together as prayer warriors. Give us a look see. You can get there from here by clking on Forum Jump at the lower left of your screem and clk on Support Groups then Spiritual Support. Hope to see you there. Love and Prayers, Carol
