I had itching around my breast area and armpit almost a year before finding my lump in my breast. When I asked my doctor if this could be related they said no, probably not. I have done neoadjuvent treatment, and was fine while on a/c but started itching all over after being on taxol. It wasn't right away, like an allergic reaction - started almost a week after infusion. I had my last treatment 3 1/2 weeks ago and I am still dealing with the itching, although not as bad now. I hope it is not an indication of new cancer since I am itching all over my body.

Diagnosed 12/09 IDC triple neg
2cm tumor
1 of 11 nodes positive
Chemo until 4/20/10
Surgery 5/26/10 No viable cancer left in breast
1 mm of cancer in one lymph node.
Radiation 6/28 to 8/9

I had itching after I finished taxol all over my body.  The doc said it couldn't be related to the chemo.  It was something that occurred after I finished the chemo and eventually went away.  Did drive me nuts for awhile.  But was not related to a recurrence.  I don't really remember if my original tumor itched, but do remember it being irritated by my bra.

Tracy, how long after your last taxol treatment did the itching go away. I had my last treatment almost five weeks ago and I am still dealing with the itching. It isn't as bad now, but I would like it to resolve completely!

Prior to be diagnosed with TNBC, my breast was very itchy.  I heard that this is because your body is trying to fight the cancer.  I am stage 2B with one positive lymph node.  My surgery was in June 2008, so I will be two years out next month.  I consider this a big milestone since I've heard that the first three years is highest for recurrance.
dx 6/08 at 52yrs, Stage2B 1/8Pos nodes; TAC/Lump/Rad/Zometa.Diagnosed with Atypical Lobular Hyperplasia 8/10. Had surgery to remove. Dbl mast 3/11. More abnormal cells (ALH)found.

The last few weeks I have had what I call cramps (like you get in your feet) in my right breast.
Has anyone ever had this happen? It just comes and then goes away and not again until the next day. At least once a day and sometimes twice.

I have that also I just figured it was from the implant having the muscle over it.It is worse when I have a surgery on that side even a biopsy.

No reconstruction needed. It is really strange to have a cramp in the breast. I am guessing it is from nerves growing back from the surgery.

this is all so interesting.
I thought I was having heart burn, I kept getting these horrible pains. When I pressed on it I felt a lump. And yes it was TNBC.
The Dr  told me it was a pulled muscle, but I insisted on a mammogram!!!
Thank goodness I didn't listen to him.

We have to listen to our bodies.

I had itching on my nipple for a long time before I discovered my lump. I never equated it with the bc, but it only itched on the breast that had the cancer.

I also experienced itching all over from the Taxol. It recently decreased in intensity after 4 weeks finished with the Taxol treatment.

specksmama,

Sorry I didn't check back here.  It seems like it was several months, but I don't remember very well.  It does seem that my skin is more sensitive even now.

I noticed the itching about 1 month before I had a 'dimple' on my skin show up. I had a mammogram and was diagnosed right after that. Very interesting......

I didn't have itching, but had another neurological symptom that has gone away now that I've had a mastectomy.  My left arm would go numb (same side as the cancer), mostly at night, but also, out of the blue, during the day.  I thought I had a pinched nerve from some old spinal issues.   I find it interesting that the numbness is gone now that the breast and tumors are gone.   I have no idea if the two are related, but it makes me wonder if the tumors were irritating a nerve that lead to my arm and hand.

Another friend of mine had a bi-lateral mastectomy in March.  She was going crazy with some twitching issues for several months.  It would wake her up at night and annoy her throughout the day.  Now that her cancer is gone, the twitching is also gone.  One of her doctors said the twitching could have been related to the cancer, and her body's irritation with what was happening in her breast.

Maybe these neurological symptoms are something to pay close attention to.  On first glance it would seem they wouldn't be related, but when you consider how connected our body is because of our nervous system, it makes some sense that there might be some neurological signs.  Of course, I am no health professional, so I have no real idea of how this would be connected.  But, I can tell you that after reading your posts, I won't be ignoring any itching in the future.

Blame it on chemo but I cannot remember itching previous to my 2 dx but there was a time back in the 80's that my rt side was itching, I scratched it out of habit and this is how I found a lump.  Good news though, that lump was b9.

I thought itching was sometimes a symptom of IBC, which is usually triple negative, right?
Diag. 3/09 TNBC, IBC, 55mm.
4 rounds AC, 4 weekly Paclitaxol.
Mastectomy & axillary clearance 8/09. No nodal involvement. 25 doses rads.
2 more rounds of A/C, 6 months low-dose CMF.
