Topic: Sister / Triple Negative Breast Cancer /Metastatic Posted: Apr 06 2012 at 8:06pm |
My sister was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in the Spring of 2010.
She followed a plan from her "chiropractor" with diet etc. and when the tumor broke through the skin he told her it was her body "ridding" itself of the cancer........NOT. She became very ill and was in very serious pain.
In the Fall of 2010 through Spring of 2011 she finally had chemo / then surgery / then radiation. Did very well through all of that :)
In the Fall of 2012 her scans - soft tissue & bone and blood work showed no cancer anywhere.
March of 2012 her blood work showed cancer "markers". Her scans showed cancer returning at the surgery site / as well as infiltration of the beast bone and two spots on the lung on that side.
From what I have read - the chemo etc. that she is going through now is only to shrink tumors so she is not in severe pain that she has had.
She is on very powerful pain medication including methadone.
I am so very scared that I will be losing my beloved sister.
I am 61 and she is 64.
Thanks for listening...........
Kristin

Hi Lilly -
Thanks for your reply.
My sister & I are both devote Christians and prayer together regulary.
She is in Florida and I am in Illinois.
She had been going a chiropractic "clinic" for quite sometime when she found out she had the triple negative breast cancer. Her decision at that time was to follow a "diet" which was suppose to starve the cancer.
After several months of this she was extremely weak and the tumor had started to break through the skin.
This "doctor" of chiropractic (and I use doctor loosely) told her it was her body ridding itself of the cancer. NOT... I think if I saw
him face to face I might end up in jail for assault. I was and am
appalled at his recommendation. I did not see her during these months of the cancer diet.
She finally saw a breast specialist and started on chemo right away and then surgery and then radiation.
She has been cancer free for only a year - and now mestastis to lung and breast bone and also appears again in the original place. This was found only a couple weeks ago. She is in excruciating pain and is on dilaudid and methadone to control pain - this pretty much puts her in
la la land.
I know at this point anything could happen and pray for her strength everyday as well as for my own.
Thanks for listening to me ramble on and on.
Kristin

Oh Kristin,
So sad. As far as I am concerned the chiropractor should be put behind bars. If he advised and let this type of behavior go on with your sister just think how many others he will/has allowed to do the same 'quackery'.....
I pray your sister will respond to the chemo quickly and her pain will diminish.
Again, I am so sorry for both of you.
God Bless,
Lillie

Kristen, I will add your sister to my prayers as well as yourself. I hope that someone will turn the quack in. I too changed my diet and started supplements, however, I did surgery and chemo first. I am sorry your sister is in so much pain, and that she has to fight this battle. Please know that we are here for both of you.

I have some questions I hope you all can answer for me. I am doing all my chemo before surgery to shrink the tumor. I just finished my 12th treatment of taxol. I was able to work up until about to weeks ago. I was just so weak and not able to type very well because of the neuropathy. I start my first of 4 treatments of A/C this week. Can you all tell me what I can expect from the A/C? I've heard so many different things. I'm just so ready to be done with this crap!! It's really hard to keep positive all the time.
Thanks for helping Lisa

Lisa, everyone is different. I was so sick with the AC, it was terrible, yet on the Taxol I had no problems.. some women I know have worked full time thru AC , all of it, after the 2nd one, i could only work part time, and after the 4th , I couldn't work at all for 3 weeks... so it really depends on the person..

Lisa, i worked thru AC. I didn't find it so bad. Don't get me wrong...I wouldn't want to repeat any of it LOL ! [ I did ONLY AC ] I had a little break thru nausea towards the end but not enough to take the compazine I was prescribed. That put me to sleep and non functioning. Working with the public, I needed to get break time to regroup.....sit and chill in a dark, quiet corner...to kind of gather energy to go on. I also did accupuncture during tx, which I felt helped tremendously with being able to maintain energy.

Hi Kristin,
I hope your sister responds well and quickly to the chemo and her pain is taken out of the equation. It's hard enough to deal with recurrence and all the "what ifs" but harder (my opinion) to deal with pain all the time. I will pray for you and her to have peace and wisdom in the days ahead. We are here to listen and support you through this ordeal.
Blessings,
Traci
