When one posts on a forum, it brings the forum topic to the top of list. Sometimes, someone will write “bump” only to bring an important forum topic to top of list.
If there are abbreviations you have seen on the forums and do not find on the list above, please post the abbreviation on this thread...........some one will respond. Then, it will eventually be added to the above list. This will help the above list to be more complete........ and more helpful especially to the newer members.

If you look up the words in the dictionary, the explanation is almost interchangeable. 10 years ago, the terms while not as technical were used for the same in a dictionary.

Arabella,
Not sure why the "lumpectomy" was referred to as "BX". That is confusing. Wondering if it could have been a typo. Maybe ask surgeon's office to check about lumpectomy being referred to as BX with the pathology department. If there was a typo, consider asking to have the report corrected.
With caring and positive thoughts, Grateful for today..........Judy

Thanks, Judy. On my path report for first surgery, it refers to my BX. Then on my second surgery, which was the lumpectomy, that path report refers to lumpectomy as a BX, so I thought it meant biopsy...I wondered why they didn't use some form of abbreviation for lumpectomy.

Kaye,
According to at least 2 medical abbreviations lists: Bx = biopsy
According to at least 2 other medical abbreviations lists: BX = biopsy Bacitracin X Bithorax
Thanks for asking. Looks like both BX and Bx are used for biopsy. Will wait to see if others post with a more definitive answer before adding BX/Bx to 1st post Master List.
