Welcome Jennifer and Lee, so glad you found us but so sorry for the need. The anticipation anxiety pre-surgery is awful. do your best to take care of yourself during this time.Rest all you can, up your protein intake for healing. Additional iron in your diet can't hurt either. If you experience extreme anxiety that prevents you from sleeping, eating or just plain terrifies you tell your doctor. Sometimes getting thru these hardest of treatment times can be helped thru medication. Come here with your fears and questions, we truly all do know what this time in your life is like. let us know how it goes, we will all be thinking of you both.

Hi Jennifer, Hooray! That sounds like all good news. It went well. There was a .1 cm residual tumor (original tumor was 2.2 cm before chemo), but they got it and got negative margins. I have swelling under my incision too and am wearing a sports bra with padding to put compression on it. It is weird how numb the whole area is. But I feel healthy and strong, though tired at times. Are you headed for radiation next? Lee

I was recently diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, grade 3 on 11/3/17. I have 2 spots on my left breast and 1 spot in my axillary lymph node. Due to the overall size between the 3 locations, I must have chemo first to shrink the tumors. I was told I will then need some sort of surgery, followed by radiation. I just had pet scans, cat scans, and an MRI of both breasts done the day before Thanksgiving Day, so I am still awaiting those results....hoping there isn't already cancer elsewhere. Anyone here with a similar situation?

Also, I am self-supporting, self-employed with hardly any money in the bank. If I am sick and cannot work, my 3 cats and I will be homeless while I go through this cancer. Anyone have any suggestions? I am located in Los Angeles County in the San Fernando Valley, CaliforniaCry

Thanks!

Donna

Donna, I am so rarely on anymore but just saw your post. I was dx 17 years ago while a self employed single parent. My daughters were 9 & 13. I couldn't afford to be sick! Fortunately I sailed thru it all. Trust me....not always easy but I was able to work. The beauty of being self employed is being able to arrange work time. Hopefully you have a job that enables you to do that. Do you pay into EDD? They pay if you only work part time. I also did acupuncture which I swear was responsible for maintaining my energy level. I didn't have it until a week after the first chemo. With successive infusions I would go directly from chemo to acupuncture. Boy did I feel the difference. Good luck to you. It is doable. I've known others that have worked thru tx.

Hello everyone.  I am a new member to the site, but have been using it as a resource since my DX March 3rd, 2016. TNBC Left Breast: Stage 2A, Grade 3, no node involvement, 4x4cm. AND Right Breast Stage 0 DCIS, no node involvement 7x4 cm tumor.

I'm 18 months post surgery...bilateral lumpectomies, AC chemo 4 rounds, dose dense, 16 wks Taxol, dose dense, 36 rounds of radiation both breasts.

In the months following, I have developed a large seroma in my right breast, and been diagnosed with, and had surgery to correct congestive heart failure (Due to Afib). Heart specialist says AC chemo was the culprit with the heart. Heart surgery (Ablation, Mayo Clinic October,2017) has fixed that problem.

Despite the difficult road past treatment, I have just completed my latest onc appointment with GREAT results. I appreciate the information and the wonderful, strong women who come forward to help others in this battle.
I want to say, make no mistake....it is a BATTLE!  Married to a warrior....Army and Law Enforcement for 42 years! I have learned that there really are battles in our lives that we MUST fight, and this one is no different than soldiers on the fields of battle have to endure.
We don't always see the enemy coming, and nearly never know how they will be armed, or how mighty the battle will be, but we can be armed for the fight with wonderful WARRIORS beside us, and competent, caring medical professionals helping us in the fight.
Thank you all for your GRACE under fire, and your willingness to help your sisters in this WAR.  Remember....you are not alone!
Thank you!

Hi, I'm a TNBC survivor, been there, done that.  It's kinda old stuff for me, as I was diagnosed in 2011, finished my treatments in 2012. Still all clear!  I would like to extend an invitation to anyone on facebook who would like to talk, or maybe not even talk but just scroll thru my old facebook posts...there's a lot of info there.  My facebook profile is https://www.facebook.com/kelly.crumpton ; I welcome new friends...but please indicate that you found me thru the TNBC site so I'll know...thanks and best wishes!
Diagnosed July 2011. Stage 1 tumor, lymph nodes clean. Lumpectomy, followed by four bi-weekly AC followed by 12 weekly Taxol, followed by 34 daily radiations.

Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a while. Finally have the courage to post. I'm grateful for all of the information collected here. I was diagnosed this past fall, and it has been a whirlwind ever since. Some days, I'm optimistic. Some days, I'm weary. I am feeling better now that I'm on Taxol, though. AC was very hard on me. MRI showed a 2.0 cm tumor in my left breast, another 7 mm tumor behind it and DCIS. Anyone else here multifocal? I have no known lymph node involvement, but I won't know for sure until surgery/pathology in the spring. I'm self-employed, and I've managed to keep working, but it was very difficult during the AC chemo. Work is easier now. Married for 20 years with three kids, ages 17, 14 and 9. Just trying to do my best to get through this marathon.
Dx 9/29/2017, IDC TNBC, age 45, stage 1, grade 3, 2.0 cm, multifocal, no node involvement, BRCA-

Started AC & T chemo 10/27/2017. BMX 04/11/2018. Achieved pCR.

Hi Carolinagail and welcome!  You put it perfectly, this is a marathon.  Thank you for sharing your story.  Yes, there have been other women who had multifocal tumors.  Hopefully they will see your post and tell you how they are doing.

I was diagnosed in May 2017. 4 AC and 12 weekly taxol. Had lumpectomy and a pcr. Surgeon said it was exciting news but I am finding it hard to believe. I am currently in #15 of 33 rads. I now have underarm and arm pain in opposite side of cancer. Anyone else have this? I am freaking out! Radiologist didn't feel any swollen lymph nodes and said might be skeletal or muscular.

Hello, my name is Beth and I am new to this forum. My sister was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer 12/18/17. It was her 71st birthday. Her name is Carole and she is young, vibrant and never sick. She noticed a swelling under her left arm in Nov. and by the time she had the biopsy done the swelling under her arm it had grown from the size of a ping pong ball to a tennis ball. Due to the holiday season it was difficult to get necessary testing done in a timely manner. The physicians are baffled by the fact that her Mamogram is negative for a primary tumor and the PET scan is negative for mets other than the lymph nodes under her left arm. The oncologist thinks the primary is in the tail of the breast which runs into the armpit.
Currently my sister is being treated with standard chemo of Taxol and Carboplatin when this is finished the next chemo will be A &.C, followed by surgery and radiation.
My question is, what does she do if the tumor does not respond to the chemo? I have read that MD Anderson has developed a test to tell if the tumor will respond to chemo even in the early stages of chemo. Is anyone familiar with this testing?
She is so very scared and very depressed. I will do anything to help her and we can travel anywhere for treatment. Except for this horrible cancer and stage 3 diagnosis she is so healthy with no co-morbidities. Any advice will be appreciated. Sincerely, Beth

Beth,
Very sorry you have not gotten any response yet. We are here :)

You are a wonderful sister to Carole and she is so lucky to have you in her corner.
Very please you came here to the wonderful group that this is.
Yes there are testings that can be done to see how the chemos etc. will effect the cancer.

Others here are more knowledgable and I hope they come along soon to offer up information.

MD Andersen is top, Sloan Kettering also. Many go for second opinions.
Please keep us posted to how Carole is doing.

Dear Beth,

I echo Natalie's thoughts. I think your sister may benefit from a second opinion. I work as Executive Director of SAGE Patient Advocates (SAGE) in a volunteer capacity and neither SAGE or I charge for services. I have helped scores of women on this site over the last 10+ years and I am sending you my contact information in a PM now. SAGE does not offer medical advice and I will not tell your sister what to do but it may be useful to get a second/third opinion and SAGE may be able to make suggestions regarding that.

warmly,

Steve

I am a BRCA1+ grandson, son and father of women affected by breast/oc-my daughter inherited mutation from me, and at 36, was dx 2004 TNBC I am a volunteer patient advocate with SAGE Patient Advocates

My name is Peggy and I'm new to this site.  I was diagnosed July,2017.  I had a lumpectomy, followed by dose-dense AC x 4 then taxol x14.   I had radiation after that with no major problems.  But it's been a year since I finished chemo and I still have somewhat limited energy.  Is this normal?  And is there some foods that are recommended over others to help discourage recurrence?  I'm tired of feeling worn out at the end of a normal day.  Cardio sounds daunting.....
