Dear Lillie,
Thanks for you support, I had my Mastectomy 08, in 6-10 I had my second axilllary dissection so they took total of 42 lymphnodes for under my R arm. The sore that I wrote about is one spot about the size of an dime that I can't reach. It is under my shoulder blade on the right side. But my whole right side is sensative to touch and I think I have more lymphedema in the shoulder chest area vs the arm. Who knows. I pray daily that the lord guides someone to find a cure for all!

Hi all! Sorry I haven't checked in for a few days but the mother in law landed for a visit.
I've been feeling pretty good, gearing up for round 2 on Monday.
I'm torn about what to do with my hair. If I shake my head it falls out, if I run my hands through it - falls out, brush it.. yep, falls out. 10-20 strands at a time. I still have a TON of hair but it's all over my shirt, the carpets, the kitchen floor, etc. etc. I hate to shave this much of it off but my scalp is really tender. If my hair moves it hurts. lol I'm thinking if I go ahead and shave it off that it will relieve some of the scalp pain.
Any input?

I know I sure had scalp pain when mine was falling out and I cut mine for relief from that as much as I knew I would lose it anyway, plus when I would take a shower it would like the dog got in there with me!!
Glad you have had some good days! I would shave it, put thats me! It's cold right now anyway. Perfect time for some cute hats.
Love,

I too had the pain with it falling out and then had it again as it was growing back in. Once it got to about an inch long, the pain eased up alot. My onc said she never heard of that! Duh! A lot of gals on the boards I am on had the same thing. Sure hope she knows more about chemo than she did about the pain felt when both losing it and getting it back!! I ended up shaving mine off (I had short hair to begin with) and it helped with the pain greatly. Good Luck!

Thanks for the input Keri! I have ball caps but that's about it as far as hats go. lol
Linda, my scalp was painful when the hair grew back in last year too! It would ease up for a while and then it would be tender only in places. I'm thinking that's probably when the hair was starting to grow in some more. Not sure about your oncologist, but, like you, just from what I read on the boards that scalp tenderness and pain is almost a given when our hair sheds. I thought it was a normal part of the process! I don't remember it being this tender the first time I lost the hair, so, I wasn't sure if shaving it would relieve it.

Kim,
How are you doing? Did you decide to shave your head? The first time around I shaved it when the strands started coming out. I hated that sore scalp feeling too. My hubby shaved it using a #3 blade (3/8"). The rest of the hair came out in the shower over the next few days. I couldn't believe how much hair was all over the shower stall and I had to clean it out each time. You'd thought I'd have given our dog a bath in the shower!

I used a 1" on the top and 3/8" on the back and sides. I thought I'd spare some hair for a while to see if I was indeed going to lose it all. I ended up shaving it completely yesterday afternoon because I was tired of leaving hair everywhere. Amazing relief to the sore scalp once it was all gone! My head gets cold now and then but it doesn't hurt anymore! Nice trade.

Found a new love today. Matt brought home something to satisfy my "aunt flo" who won't go away.
Dark chocolate covered blueberries. If you haven't had the chance to taste these morsels, OHHHH do I recommend! We benefit from the dark chocolate as well as the blueberries, so, healthy food, right??!! HA!
They're made by Brookside and come in a clear plastic box located in the candy isle at Wal Mart.
P.S. Had round two of the T/C today. Had a mild/strange reaction to the taxotere - end of my tongue got all tingly and later felt dry and as if it was swelling. They immediately cut the infusion and gave me solu-medrol. After a few minutes, everything calmed down and I was able to continue the infusion at half the flow rate.
2 down. 2 or possibly more to go. My onc is still studying my pathology from the mast and is alarmed at the 4cm area of free floating cells. So, he's not sure if 4 rounds will be enough, but he IS sure about the drugs we're using.
I'm on a steroid and chocolate blueberry high!
Off to watch Inception with my Matthew.
Much love, peace and hope for us all.
Kim

Kim,
Dark chocolate and blueberries, yummy! I hope Inception made sense to you on the steroid high. I watched it a few weeks ago and still don't know if I got it. Good movie but it makes you think too much. Hope you were able to get some sleep last night.
Hugs,
Donna

Hi Kim,
Thanks for the update and the positive wishes.
Glad you are through the first 2 T/C. I just had my third T/C last Wednesday. So far so good. Looking forward to the last one, then getting radiation over with too.
The chocolate and blueberries sound delicious. I will have to look for them.
Hope you enjoyed the show with Matthew. He sounds like a great guy.
Know that I will be thinking positive thoughts and sending them your way for the rest of the treatment and outcome.
Sue

Yum, you guys are making me hungry. I had blueberries last night too, but sadly with nary a morsel of chocolate. Tonight, however, there'll be chocolate galore at my RL support group's potluck. I know this because I'll be bringing it! Maybe a rich chocolate cake from the bakery down the street, La Ferrine.
Today I'm in a good mood because (1) I got the results back on my uterine biopsy (which I was SWEATING) and it's benign, and (2) my poster is done and being printed for Thursday's conference.
Have a good day, everyone.
love, d

Denise,
Congratulations on B9 test results!
Kim,
Here's some other ideas for blueberries. Mainy told me about this one. Take fresh blueberries and bake them for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. I put them in a casserole dish. When they've cooled a little, they taste just like warm cobbler. If I have any extra, I save it. I'll use some of the baked blueberries in my oatmeal and vanilla yogurt. I've also used it as jam and spread it on my toast. It's a little messy but tastes good and doesn't have all that extra sugar that jelly/jams have in them.

Kim,
Do you take Decadron 4 mg. (dexamenthosone) 2 days after your treatment? My onc said I could try skipping it or take a 1/2 of a pill. I haven't done it yet as I'm worried about the nausea creeping in. I was just wondering what you're taking or not taking. I may take a full pill today and try a 1/2 a pill tomorrow. If not problem, then cut back to 1/2 a pill only during the next tx cycle. How are you feeling?
