Topic: Pain in right side towards back--liver? Posted: May 08 2010 at 2:42pm |
I was wondering if a pain in the side toward the back, low and deep inside of the rib cage could be something to do with my liver...does this sound familiar to anyone?

I'll apologize up front for my reaction which is, 'better damn well not be'. I don't know Bliss, I have cramping in that area from time to time which just about brings me to my knees. When's the next time you see your oncologist?

For what it's worth, my daughter (doesn't have cancer) has liver problems, hep C, fatty liver, cysts on liver - and never has pain in the back area - it's always across her abdomen. Could you just have a muscle spasm or pulled a muscle perhaps? I hope it's nothing but that - not that I wish you any pain but I would rather you have a spasm or pull than anything else. Keep us posted, please.

It doesn't sound like liver to me either. It sounds more like indigestion or possibly a pulled muscle. It is not your liver, Blissy. Go back to bliss, away from fear. Though of course I know well how any unwellness in our bodies takes us straight there. Time to take out the tiara and teeter around the room on those high heels, a bunch of carrots in your arms and a forced smile on your face. Now you can take it off and relax. love, Denise

I have occasional spasms in my lower back and around my rib cage area which like Mainy said, can bring you to your knees. Definitely stops you in your tracks. I'm going to try a muscle relaxer and see if it helps.
I believe mine is caused by Emphysema, the muscles complaining.
Hoping it is only a muscle spasm and nothing serious, keep us posted.

Hi Mainy,
Well, I'm not scheduled to see her until next month, but I can always move it up.
Wow, the sensation is scary. I was doing a lot of heavy housework (it is my therapy, If I'm upset, just put me in a messy room) and I'm hoping that is the cause, though I never had such a sensation from heavy lifting, etc, before.
I'll give it three more days to abate, if it doesn't then I'll book an appointment.
Best, Bliss

Hi Linda,
Thank you, I was wondering what kind of sensations an "unhappy" liver sends out. I think maybe it is a pulled muscle or spasm.
I'll post more info as I go.
Best, Bliss

Hi Denise,
Your post made me smile....that is a funny image with a bouquet of carrots! I will certainly be teetering on those heels with my bunions!
I'll wait for three more days and if the sensation is still there then I will follow up with my doctor. If it is gone, then out comes the tiara...
Thank you Denise.
Best, Bliss

Hi Pam,
Thank you for the perspective....yes, the spasm or what ever it is, dropped me a few times, and it was a shock for sure.
Hope you are feeling better....
I'll be clearer on what's what in the next three days I think.
Best, Bliss

Bliss,
Here's wishing that it's just a pulled muscle or spasm.

Hi Bliss,
I hope you are feeling better.
Could it be "GAS"??? Or the pulled muscle sounds the most obvious thing. I've have some really bad spasms in my back and I've had some really bad "gas" pains also.
Love ya,
Lillie

Oh my gosh....stop, stop, I haven't laughed this hard all day until I read this thread, and it's a bit of a side splitter!!!!!
Yes, I'll be cleaning and polishing everyone's home, but it will have to be a virtual exercise 'cuz really, what's a little doggie fur and a Hula Hoop between friends? My sweet doggie Sophie will be happy to supply the gas!

Just an update to let you know that the pain is much better and feels like it was an injury to the fascia over my ribs....it still feels a bit odd so I will bring it up at my next onc visit, but I am pretty sure I just pulled something.
Can't blame it on gasssssss though! Ha Ha...

Thanks for the update. Now I think I'm having sympathy pains with you! I keep feeling a soreness on my right side also and I keep poking at my rib cage. The more I do, the sorer it feels:)

Dear Bliss, I had a similar pain after my mastectomy. It kinda felt like gallbladder pain, but I had my gallbladder out in 1999. I too was concerned about liver issues! So I went to my Gi doc and had and EGD and it turned out to be duodenal gastritis. What a relier!!
Guess I had been very stressed from all this silliness. The Gi doc put me on carafate 1 gm and prevacid 30 mg per day for 3 months. After 2 weeks I still had pain and he added motrin 200mg 3x/day for one week.(This sounded counterintuitive to me but I did it anyway and it worked--no pain after the week).
I go back to see the GI guy this Friday. Hopefully I can stop the carafate and prevacid.
Now I am having lower back pain that comes and goes...kinda feels like menstrual cramps at times. I have a routine appt to see my onc on June 2. But I have a Zometa infusioin this Thursday. So I will mention this new development to them at that time.
I go to visit my son who lives in Florida this Saturday....for 8 days. And I am going...no matter what.
I hate new aches and pains!!!
If I were you, I would let your onc know about it and see what he/she says...can't hurt!
