    Posted: Apr 07 2010 at 10:51am
Did anyone have eye problems after recieving Taxol treatments. After my second Taxol treatment I was on my way home and I notice that I had white shooting (think fireworks) spots in my field of vision. It only lasted about a half hour and I had no other problems, no blurry vision, no headache, nothing. Then yesterday after my third Taxol treatment it happened again and I told the chemo nurse, she had never heard of anyone having that reaction before. They had me stay and gave me a saline drip and again after 30 minutes it was resolved. I am getting my care at Mayo Clinic in MN, so I know that they are quite good at what they do, but it scared me that no one every heard of this before. I thought maybe some of you have had the same thing and could let me know what is going on. I only have one treatment left and I really don't want to skip it.

Hi, I had Taxotere and noticed blurry vision during chemo.  When I went to the eye doctor after I finished treatment he said my vision really had changed from the prior year.  It could have been from the chemo or just age related.  I didn't have any white shooting fireworks like you experienced.  I hope it goes better for you.

thanks Donna - the fireworks aren't all painful, and I only have one treatment left to go on 4/20. Then I have my surgery on 5/26 - Talked with surgeon yesterday and he was very optimistic about my outcome. Said that my tumors have shrunk to the point that they are hard to find by manual exam. I had one on my breast and one under the arm - I am very happy to hear that! I decided to go the neoadjuvant route and the surgeon is pretty sure he can do a lumpectomy as long as he can get clear margins.

Thanks for your prompt reply - I love this site, it is nice to know that there are other triple negs out there!

Hi Mary, I'm a year out and I still get them. Mine are sometimes colored. And here I just thought it was my dear mother's spirit coming back from the great beyond to tell me to get up and go out into the sunshine! Dear Taxol, will you haunt us forever?

At least yours have color - mine were just plain white! Did you also get horrible itching - I am on steroids now for that along with benadryl. I can hardly wait to be done with taxol. I had an easier time with a/c!

Hi Girls:
I had the same blurriness during and after chemo so went to my eye specialist and he said the same thing"your eyes have not changed much since your last appt two years ago".  But, he did say that I had cataracts forming... How do ya like that one?  58 and cataracts...??? Eyes are feeling better but still get the gunk in them...?

Well, my eyes are dry and crusty and so for that I use the Systane Ultra that my eye doc suggested. I notice that when my eyes are dry, before I drop in some of the Ultra, that my vision isn't so great, then afterwords it clears right up.

I too am experiencing with some eye problems.  Before I could read without my glasses, but have since realised that I even need them to eat.  I am also having some very sharp stabbing pains all over my body. is this some of the side effects of this drug as well.

When I went to ucsf midway through treatment I told them fearfully about my blurry vision (eye mets?), only to have the nurse practitioner laugh and basically say "it's poison, duh!".  I guess those spy films that show the perspective of the person being poisoned (world goes blurry and starts to spin) are about right.  Your vision should return to normal once the poisoning phase is over. :)
Love,
Denise

I took my son in for his eye exam right before I started the chemo.  The doc said finish ALL of your treatment, then give it a month or two and come see me.  BOY had my vision changed!  Both near and far sight was different.  When I got my new glasses I got woozy wearing them at first I could see so well.  New contacts too and I've been good for 5 months now - they seem to have stopped changing.

Rocky,

The sharp stabbing pains could be Neuropathy.

I had/have those from my last treatments with Taxotere, especially in my thighs, boy they hurt.
Hope yours goes away after treatment.
