Hello All,
I was diagnosed TNBC yesterday.  The lump is 8cm.  I have so many tests upcoming (bone scan, CT, MUGA, clip placement); it's really unbelievable.  I am 42 years old, have 2 kids; 12 and 8.  My husband is amazing; although devastated right now.

Does anyone have any information regarding appropriate foods to eat/not eat?  I've contacted the dietitian recommended by the Breast Health Centre.  Just hoping to get a leg up on this giant thing I'm carrying around...

I'm sorry you have had to join this club.   Your medical team with give you the best advice, but if your like me, you want to feel in some sort of control.   I found this website that has helped https://foodforbreastcancer.com/ ; and since being diagnosed, I have completely changed my diet and increased my exercise routine.    I've worked really hard to increase my immunity and even included supplements and daily superfood green drinks.   I've found I have heaps of energy and I've coped really well through the treatments and surgery.

I'm so very sorry about your diagnosis, and I know it's particularly anguishing having children at the same time! My advise with the kids is be honest. My kids surprised me with the way they have handled it, and it's brought our family so much closer.
We all have to go thru the whirlwind of tests before treatment begins. Be prepared for "things" to turn up that require further testing: it scared the sh!t out of me the first time! You've lived in that body 42 years and it's left Mark's :) the first time it was a spot on my lung, spot on a back rib, and a "thing" on my ovary.Xray showed a scar on my lung from a bout of pneumonia many years before, a healed crack in my back rib from a car accident in 1986, and an ultrasound found a normal fluid filled cyst on my ovary. This time it was my thyroid that lit up (ultrasound and blood test showed normal inflammation) and a nasal cavity thing that a n endoscope (ouch!) Showed was normal as well. It's exhausting but you'll get thru! This is one of the hardest times, getting thru this chaos and unknowing. My clinic has a nutritionist that works with cancer patients, she came around during each chemo to talk about my diet, how I was doing etc., Ask to work with one ongoing thru treatment.
We took our youngest to a family therapist in the beginning, had a family meeting with him to just get us talking and moving in the right direction.
You will get thru it!
Have they scheduled genetic testing for you yet? 42 is young, an appointment with the genetic counselor should be in order. Remember to breathe!

Best Friend diagnosed today. not good stage 4 because of distant spread to adrenal and maybe colon. Is anybody a patient at Vanderbilt-Ingram in Nashville?  I am begging her to go from MS to a NCI hospital- and the closest is Vanderbilt.  Their website/credentials sound good. THanks for any info!

Bfriend,

I know of one member that is being treated at Vanderbilt.  Her member name is Cheeks.  You can search the memberlist for her name and send her a PM.

Hello bfriend,
I’m so sorry to hear about your dear friend.
I’ve been a patient at Vanderbilt for the past 6 years for followup staring 2 years after my first occurrence of TN. Recently a new primary was found in my other breast and I just finished chemo 2 weeks ago.

Vanderbilt, in my opinion, is the best place to go in Tennessee. I see Dr Ingrid Meyer. She is a very knowledgeable oncologist and researcher particularly when it comes to dealing with Triple Negative breast cancers.

My husband and I travel from North Carolina.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Thanks for making the connection for my friend and Cheeks. I know it will make a big difference in staying positive right now in the first wave of being overwhelmed by the diagnosis.
