Since my cancer has moved from the right breast into to the sternum my oncologist would like for me to start taking Zometa while I am doing the chemo.  Have any of you had experience with this bisphosphonate? I did a quick search on the internet, spoke to my dentist to make sure my dental health was par, and I am going in for a training on it tomorrow.  Any suggestions as to questions to ask?  Also, I need to have a brain scan even though, so far, it is only in my breast and sternum.  Again, this sounds like general practice but is scary.  Thanks all.

I am taking zometa currently with my chemo, and have been since July.  I get it once a month.  I haven't had any problems with it, outside of the first treatment.  That hit me like a truck--you know that awful feeling you get with the flu?  It was like that but way worse.  So on the 2nd dose, I asked them to increase my fluids, which as far as I know they did, and I haven't had that problem since.  I was concerned about my teeth, but my onco said that since I have good dental hygiene, I will be ok.  We'll see what my dentist says next month!  :)

I also had a brain MRI (2 actually) before starting treatment.  One was required for the study that I am on, but the first one, I think may have been just a check.
