Topic: new treatment for mets Posted: Feb 12 2017 at 7:57pm |
I have tnbc w/mets to lungs & bones. After approximately 1 year on Xeloda, my doctor has started me on the male hormone drug - First Xtandi & now Bicalutamide. Ask your doctors if your tumors are androgen receptors.. Mine are. The results have been dramatic - I am almost cancer free after only a few months. Just wanted to share, as this is a very new approach to metastatic tnbc. There are a lot of clinical trials going on wit these drugs.

That's wonderful! I have heard some doctors say that we may need to start calling it Quadruple Negative, because targeting the androgen receptor for those who are positive is very effective, so soon they should be checking everyone for ER, PR, HER2, and AR. I am glad you are lucky to have the androgen receptors, and I hope this treatment works for you for a very very long time!

Kudos to your medical team! More TNBC patients may benefit from additional testing for the AR too.
