Topic: Finally, it came to me...What we need here is... Posted: Dec 26 2009 at 3:32pm |
Hello,
It came to me what this site or it's users could REALLY use, and I have been here for awhile but today it hit me as to what that is and it is...
A live chat window where we could all talk to one another in real time.
So we would all be logged in as usual and on the side bar would be a list of those that are available for discussion. We could then just listen if we want to or add a comment if we are so moved to.
I know there are some times I have been on here just dying to actually have other members to say hello and make some real friendships. Sure, this site is nice as it is but this would be the NEXT step. If you agree please let them know, if you think the idea sucks, that is ok too but I just want to know if it is a good idea or not.
Thanks,
Dave

I'm down with that. I work from home, I'm on the computer at least 8 hours a day - I'd participate!

So, what would the next step be to make this a reality?

Dave,
You'd probably have to contact ArleneB, the forum administrator, to see if they could modify the website. We've tried to get the Alternative Support forum to allow different topics to post, but haven't been successful. Right now its just one big thread. Who knows, they may like this idea and ask the website people to make it happen. I don't know what's involved to make the online chat a possibility.

I was part of the FPP forum for the book I Am Not My Breastcancer. Quite a few from that site [ including autumm and Caryn from this site] have done a Monday night chat for years. It takes place on a seperate site, Chatzy, which is very limiting. It is great to hop onto Monday chat when available. It would be nice to have a chat set up within this site because of the differences in people coming and going. FPP was a closed site open with a different purpose but still cancer related.
Great suggestion Dave.

Maybe in the meantime you could put your Yahoo IM or Messenger name on your stats (create a new account especially for here.) Just a suggestion.
I hate it when I type before thinking. Please disregard the above. We should keep the chat here where it belongs.

Dear Carol,
I think there is a lot of good in this website and I hate to be skittish during the holidays but creation of this forum or a new sub-forum is hardly difficult these days with all the web tools available.
The TNBC Foundation organizers seem to have some philosophical concerns with creating a proper forum for complimentary and alternate discussions. Oh well, we could always just add threads in the Support Forum.

Does this mean that I would have to comb my hair and have my make-up on? Just kidding.......
I know one thing, I am a true Southerner, and it comes through loud and clear in my voice. When I worked a public job I had phone contact with people from all over the world. I kidd you not, people would call just to hear me talk.
If we do this, I might just listen.....
I love you guys,
Lillie

It seems this discussion did indeed lead to a "Chat Room" - but I've yet to see anyone chatting? I've tried to go in a couple of times, but I already talk to myself, so there's no point in online chatting to myself too...
SO, do folks actually use the chat room, and if so, when and how?
Talk to you soon!??

Hello, scarred,
I came back after a long time, just brosing.
How are you doing? How's your wife doing?
We just go through the journey and do not think about our loved one. I just have learned, both my kids started smoking, when I was going through chemo....
I hope you are doing well.... live chat can be done on SKYPE. See you there.
