Does anyone received Effexor pills to treat hot flushes while on treatment?

I'm not sure if it is appropriate to received any pills while on treatment or is it better after finishing all treatment, as also for any other supplements.

Thank you

Hello....

I am currently on Effexor. I was put on it by my Oncologist while in treatment for HORRIBLE hot flashes. I completed my chemo Nov. 16th. I am still on it. I was never told that it would compromise treatments. I think it is now helping me with the LIVING BEYOND TREATMENT.

My Oncologist did tell me she did not want me on antioxidants during Chemo, but she did advice the Effexor and it did seem to help.

Dear Dianne,

Did you started Effexor while having chemo or after finishing? I'm worry because i have heard that you don't have to take anything while on treatment(chemo & radiation).
The advice is for my mum who is suffering from terrible hot flushes.
Do you receive any antioxidants or supplements now?

All the best to you!!

I started during chemo. I sat in the Oncologist office and just had a complete breakdown.
I was crying with hot flashes and said I DONT know what is wrong with me?????
She held my chart in her hand and said....UMMM I think I could tell ya. LOL.....
She then adviced me to take Effexor 75 mg and yes it does help. It was about 1/2 way through my chemo. There are studies out that say anti-depressants can affect the Tamoxin (sp) medicine that Hormone receptive positive women take. Well I could not find anything saying WE being hormone negative should not take it or that it would compromise our treatment (during chemo.)
It was just horrible (hot flashes) I just had to have something to help me.

As of now I am a little over three weeks past all treatments and YES I do take antioxidants. Here is my daily regimen.........

I try to eat whole grain organic oatmeal every morning with fresh blueberries and Gijo berries....

I take a whole foods multi vitamin daily. It is a liquid form called (Alive)
 5000 IU vitami
n D3....(liquid for called liquid sunshine) (once daily)
500 mg Ester C (take three times daily)
200 IU vitamin E (once daily)
500 mg Green Tea supplement (once daily) (also am trying to drink HOT GREEN TEA ALOT)
Curamin tablets (three times daily)....MD Anderson has a study out on this one....it is SO GOOD for
after chemo body aches. It takes about 8 weeks to get in
your system. I can tell when I run out of this one. It is an
herb I believe from India. I believe it has cancer killing
                                                            abilities.....LOVE IT
200 mg milk thistle (three times daily) This is EXCELLENT on detoxing the liver. We all know that the
chemo is so hard on the liver. I get cancer care and
prevention news and AFTER I started Milk Thistle the
American Cancer Society posted its benefits....GOOD STUFF

81 mg Bayer Aspirin (once daily, five days a week)      Again latest study shows it MAY lower                                                                                                  recurrence for hormone positive or negative

I also try to juice DAILY...........
I do carrots, broccoli, kale, and apple (or just any types of GREEN VEGGIES)
I add one teaspoon each of the following Powder ...........
Alfalfa
Barley Grass
Chlorella
Wheat Grass
Sprulina
Blue-green Algae

It is not very tasty but I get it in there......I got this info from a book called the bible cures for Cancer.

I do not KNOW if it is working....I just know it makes me feel as though I am in control and am doing SOMETHING.....Unfortunately we as triple negatives dont have the little PILL to take daily to help combat this disease. So I have loaded MY OWN ARSENAL......

It is a NEW way of life....I try to not eat too much meat. I just do FISH. I do struggle ALOT....My 8 year old has been selling candy bars for fundraiser at school....and YEP I caved and ate one last night....WEll I have had a few actually. I told my mom last night.....UUUUGGGHHH I want my old carefree life back...the one where I can INDULGE in the ice cream if I want....LOL

I also try to get one hour a day in on my treadmill .....agian TRY.....sometimes it is just 30 minutes or not at ALL.....but I do try.....I am wanting to do all of this enough that it eventually just becomes a HABIT......I DID NOT use the above during Chemo....My Oncologist said NO...NO...NO antioxidants but she did say after chemo...YES.....u will need to heal your BODY......

Hope this helps ya......

May God Bless Us All,

Diane
