Yipee....great news! I am so happy for you and your family. I too have middle school girl slumber parties and know how tiring (but fun) they can be. Two weeks ago I had a neighbor involved scavenger hunt and I am not sure who enjoyed it more...the neighbors or the girls. Have a fantastic weekend!

Hi all,

GOOD NEWS!  Both Donna and I got good news from Dr Ellis yesterday.

After 6 months on a Ph1 clinical study of BAY80-6946 (PI3Ki drug) in combo with Taxol (dosed IV weekly), I have had a Complete Response (CR) to the chemo regimen!  The lung mets are completely gone and I am officially in remission.

And just in time, because I have developed a dangerous side effect to the PI3Ki drug - intermittant high fevers.  On Sun-Tues I had fevers of 102-103 that were not well-controlled by any meds.  I had fevers on Sun-Tues for the past 4 weeks, but this week was more severe and the first time that ibuprofen wouldn't bring it down.   Dr Ellis called it an idiosyncratic immune response and said it's not safe for me to continue on the study.  I also have inflammatory pneumonitis visible on the CT scan (causing a dry cough and shortness of breath during physical exertion), but a short course of prednisone should fix me up.

I am so very grateful to God and my medical team and to everyone who has been praying faithfully for me and sending me positive energy.

Love to all,
Beth

Beth,

Oh my GOSH! I was getting so nervous when you hadn't posted. I kept checking knowing that you and Donna were both going yesterday.

CR is the most AMAZING news!!!! I can not even imagine how estatic you must feel right now. And probably nervous as heck heading into it with the symptoms. Absolutely incredible. And to have a drug that is looking promising is pretty fantastic too! Love seeing NED at the bottom of your post!

SO happy for you!!!!!!

Beth,

Your good news has me still smiling today!  I was worried about you when I heard about the fever.  To find out you are in remission and no lung mets is nothing short of a miracle.  I'm doing the "happy dance" for you friend.  Your upbeat attitude and caring for others while you battled mets, is remarkable.  Now you need to plan that dream family vacation and celebrate!

Hugs,
Donna

PS:  We need to plan another dinner with the TNBC gals to celebrate the good news!

Don't be too sad about the fever.  The immune response causing the fever is probably the same one that wiped out your cancer.   If this hyperactivation of immunity is 'remembered' in your adaptive immune system, you might very well be cured.  Permanently.

(Something like this accounts for several stage IV cures on this board.   There is a theme of the development of autoimmune disorders like sjoegren's or dermatomocytis coinciding with permanent disappearance of metastatic disease.)

Dear Beth,
To keep on pushing through while having the side effects shows the rest of us what a fighter you are.  Words cannot convey how happy I am for you.  You have shown us that we "should never give up".   Thank you for the Spirit and Hope you give to so many on this site.

Thanks so much everybody! I can feel the love!

Denise, I have been thinking that the hyperimmune response occurring just as the last of the mets disappeared seems like a bit too much of a coincidence, so I like your theory a lot. Especially the permanent remission bit. I will believe that and hang on to it when I have doubts. Thank you! Ever since I developed mets I have thought that in order to be cured, my immune system has to somehow learn or be trained to recognize the stray TNBC cells that chemo didnt kill as foreign and attack them, but I couldn't really visualize before exactly how it could happen. And now I will be on the lookout for some autoimmune disorder. So far I have the inflammatory pneumonitis...and the fever isn't quite gone yet but is low- grade now.

You people are all treasures, who each have special gifts that you continue to share with me. I am so blessed.

Still doing the happy dance!!!
