Hi all,

I was diagnosed March 6th with Grade 3 TNBC - 3 lumps, 50mm, 18mm, 20mm. I had 6 rounds of FEC chemo & then a mastectomy at end of Aug. When I saw my surgeon 2 weeks post op he told me my lymph nodes were clear & they removed all the tumors completely. He said I didn't need radio therapy but recommended having the other breast removed as a risk reducing measure. As you can imagine I was very happy. Then a few weeks later I saw my onc who told me the chemo didn't really do much & only shrunk the largest tumor by 2mm & didn't shrink the other 2 at all. Now I'm worried that the fact it didn't respond to chemo means I'm not as in the clear as I thought I was especially as I've seen some sites suggesting that TNBC can be spread through the blood & not just the lymphs.
Anyone got any advice/thoughts? Thanks

Kirstielou,

I'm so sorry the tumors weren't responsive to the chemo.  Have they suggested additional adjuvant chemo?  Can they test the tumors for chemo sensitivity to see which ones might respond better?  Maybe a 2nd opinion?

Dear Kirstielou,
I find it interesting that your surgeon and oncologist find such a range of difference in what your treatment accomplished.

Donna makes a good point about testing for chemo sensitivity to see if there is another drug that will 'wipe those tumors away'.... Also a second opinion is a very good idea.

Please take care of yourself and let us know what path you choose.

God Bless,

Kirstielou,

My tumor actually grew on Taxol when I was doing neoadjuvant chemo. I posted a message on this forum and received some good feedback from other TNBC sisters. Here is the thread: http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/request-more-chemo_topic12205.html?KW=positive_attitude. In my opinion as a patient, I agree that you definitely need more chemos and a second opinion would help. Now that you no longer have a tumor to see whether it responds to a certain chemo, chemosensitive tests such as Caris report might be helpful.

Love,

Rebecca
