Hi Donna,
I'm taking 1000 mg a day of Curcurim. I wasn't ever able to find an article stating the amount to take a day so I follow my gut and take 2/day. Along with Wobenzym N another anti inflammatory enzymes.

Shelly, Thanks for your input. The only dosing information I've found was from the No Surrender website: http://www.nosurrenderbreastcancersurvivorforum.org/post?id=4530242"Minimal effective dosing is 500 mg/daily of curcuminoid component (one capsule daily), but this can be escalated to up to at least 1500 to 2000 mg daily . . ." He goes on to detail when higher doses are recommended. To me it seems that the dosing range can vary widely. This was why I wanted to see the dose levels other women are taking.

I think some people have stomach irritation from it so it is very individual how much you take. I take 300 mg 2 x day.

Pam posted this link in the resource section about Curcurmin. Thanks Pam for finding it. http://breastcancerfightnowbydraarontabor.blogspot.com/2010/01/curcumin-kills-triple-negative-breast.html
Curcumin is a natural component of the spice turmeric that is
responsible for the spice's yellow pigment. Previous research in cell
culture systems and animals has suggested that curcumin might have a
variety of anti-cancer properties. In fact, a recent
paper reported that the combination of curcumin and piperine, an
active chemical from black pepper, might inhibit the self-renewal of
breast cancer stem cells.
A new
research study suggests that curcumin might also have cancer
fighting benefits for individuals with triple negative breast cancer.
Triple negative breast cancer is a specific type of breast cancer that
is defined as lacking in estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and
HER2 receptors. Triple negative breast cancer is typically considered
to be more aggressive and presents as a higher grade of breast cancer.
In this new study, breast cancer researchers treated triple negative
breast cancer cells with different amounts of curcumin in a cell culture
system. Curcumin was shown to have a number of cancer fighting
properties in this system:
- Curcumin induced DNA damage in triple negative breast cancer
cells
- Treatment with curcumin caused a localization of BRCA1 such that it
was unable to repair the DNA damage.
- Curcumin induced the death of triple negative breast cancer cells
within 72 hours, while having minimal effect on non-cancerous breast
cells.
- While both triple negative breast cancer cells and hormone-positive
breast cancer cells were susceptible to curcumin treatment, triple
negative breast cancer cells were more sensitive.
- Curcumin suppressed the ability of triple negative breast cells to
grow independently and to migrate.

This support group hasn't had a lot of activity lately. Are there no ladies out there looking into non-traditional treatment for their cancers?
I have been reading a lot of stuff (Cancer-Outside the Box book, Cancer Tutor web site, etc)- but have noticed a lot of the big centers cost tons of $ and involve traveling. I'd love for someone who is reputable to walk me through something like this. Don't want to take chances, but also don't want to do more damage to myself for the future.

Hi there!
I haven't come to this site for quite some time now. Couldn't get a proper thread going here and out of frustration most of us moved over to the breastcancer.org site. There are some great TN threads there and I hand out on the naturegirl thread.
Best,
MBJ (this is what I go by on bco)

Danielle,
I am just now seeing your post, but I read 2 books I that I thought were very helpful and balanced as far as not knocking traditional medicine, but at the same time offering some evidence-based recommendations on lifestyle, diet and supplements.
Anticancer by David Servan-Schreiber, MD
Life Over Cancer by Keith Block, MD
How are you feeling? I did not have radiation, but I did have the same chemo you will have. If you have any questions, let me know!
Take care,
Laura

Hi,
I'm new to this thread. I didn't know it existed so I'm so glad I stumped upon it.
I was diagnosed in September 09 and went through surgery, chemo and radiation. In January I noticed a tumor on my neck and PET scan shows another tumor in the chest again tnbc.
I haven't started treatment yet and is seeing a homeopathic specialist. I've spent the last month researching alternative medicine and is convinced that integrated or complimentary medicine is the way to go. I want to avoid conventional chemo but can live with lose dose. I've changed my diet and started taking supplements, many are the same as the ones listed on this board. In addition, I take fucoidan supplement and detox drink.
I'm considering going to an alternative clinic for treatment. A friend of mine referred me to the Century Clinic in Reno by Dr. James Forsythe. He uses insulin potentiation therapy and other supplements. Her husband went there 6 months ago. I was wondering if anyone on this site has use this clinic or any alternative/integrated medicine clinics. I even consider going to Germany. Since the expense is a huge factor for me, the decision is a difficult one.
Thank you for your feedback.

Cancer cells are a mystery, yet to be unraveled. I would consider all therapies in conjunction with one another rather exclusively one or the other.
Take care and good luck with your research!

Hi Ladies
its refreshing to see a thread & topic that is close to my heart. I was recently diagnosed with a grade 2 IDBC .. on the 3rd May I had surgery lump & wide margin removal + 5 nodes.
I went back this Monday & was told I was stage 1 but upgraded to a grade 3 triple Neg... my lump was 8mm on last scan (2 weeks) b4 opp & on path report it was 7mm .. I will definately be having the radiotherapy. When I asked about chemo they agreed in the meeting that I was "boarderline" if to have it or not .. I have spoken to a few women in my situation who despite the low % rate seem to chose chemo as a precaision. I was told by my Doc at the hospital that I needed to talk to an Oncologist which will happen this coming Monday. So right now im feeling a bit stressed & unsettled just as I did when I was 1st diagnosed.
I HATE the thought of chemo .. if there had been any invaision in the margin or my nodes were not clean I would def say yes to chemo Also I do think there are alot of woman less brave than me that go for it. I suffer terrible anxiety & suffered agraphobia for many years so the fact I got to the hospital for all my appointments I thought was a major strength in itself.
I too have changed my diet cut out fats & eating natural food / Juices .. the 2 weeks after my surgery I felt very confident & listened to Brandon Bays *the Journey* I also do alot of Angel meditations & have now tracted down a Journey practitioner in my area who im hoping will come work with me on the Journey Prosseses
Im dreading this Monday .. I got that feeling in my bones that the Oncologist will say the % of survival after 10 years & its just going to put my brain into over drive .. I too have studied alot of stats .. I know there is no guarentees with chemo even for those with hormone poss BC
How I see it now is my cancer is OUT of me ... theres the saying in't there " dont try fix what is not broken" ! Im asking myself do I want to have chemo put my body through the grueling side affect ? weaken all my internal organs which is never guarenteed that they ever recover fully . Im also a GREAT believer that chemo may kill cancer but it does not get to the root cause to why the cancer appeared in the 1st place & unles that is addressed, spiritual level or whatever .. then are we doing ourselves any favors
It will be interesting to see what the oncologist has to say, I too have known many people go through many rounds of chemo to lose their battle & that seems so unfair IF chemo is so brilliant WHY does this happen I ask myself
I would love to hear from anyone who has same stage & grade of tripple neg that chose just to have Radiotherapy & still kicking high many years on
Thank you

Hi Angelight, Thank you for sharing your story. You might want to post it in the Welcome thread as more women will see it and give you feedback. There are several women on our forum that had a similar size tumor as you. I hope they will share their story. Here's the thread: http://forum.tnbcfoundation.org/topic8_post83323.html#83323Donna

Tea mechanism in preventing autoimmune disease uncovered
|
In an article published online on May 20, 2011 in the journal Immunology Letters,
researchers at Oregon State University's Linus Pauling Institute report
a mechanism for green tea in suppressing autoimmune disease: an
imbalance of the immune system which results in the body attacking
itself. Autoimmune diseases range from childhood allergies to fatal
diseases including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Although
treatment with pharmaceutical agents can help regulate immune function
in autoimmune disease, the drugs are frequently associated with
toxicity.
Oregon State University Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences
associate professor Emily Ho and her associates studied the effect of
the green tea polyphenol known as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in
cell cultures and in mice. They found that EGCG increased the amount of
regulatory T cells (which help dampen the immune system), whose
function is regulated by processes that involve transcription factors
and DNA methylation.
“EGCG may have health benefits through an epigenetic mechanism, meaning
we aren’t changing the underlying DNA codes, but just influencing what
gets expressed, what cells get turned on,” Dr Ho elaborated. “And we may
be able to do this with a simple, whole-food approach.”
“Epigenetic regulation can be potentially exploited in generating
suppressive regulatory T cells for therapeutic purposes, and is of
significant clinical importance for the suppression of autoimmune
diseases,” the authors note.
Dr Ho concluded that EGCG "appears to be a natural, plant-derived
compound that can affect the number of regulatory T cells, and in the
process improve immune function. When fully understood, this could
provide an easy and safe way to help control autoimmune problems and
address various diseases.”

I wish we had a complimentary, holistic and alternate therapy section. We're all
adults capable of making the right decisions for OUR
treatment. I really hate to see this die out.
Thanks to Donna
and others for keeping the Vit D and other vital supplement threads
alive. If it weren't for the Big Pharma I guarantee there would be a cure for a
lot of diseases by now.
I want to know how we're really going forward w/ breast cancer - where's the great progress in the last 25 years?
