The counselor asked about family history and no cancer at all. However I was the only grandchild on my dad's side so I had no history there. I was able to get insurance to cover the test. I felt better even with being negative. If I wasn't, then my sons lives could be effected and I wanted them to know.

The test should be available to everyone and not cost prohibitive.

Donna

Such a hard decision at your age and newly married.

I know if there was a test several years that could have told me I was at high risk for bc, I would have chosen a prophylactic mastectomy. Maybe then I wouldn't have had to face tnbc and chemo. Maybe someday women will have this screening.

Donna

The only way to know for sure is totest and if your insurance will pay for it..why not do it? Especially with TNBC since 80% of BRCA1+ women who have breast cancer have TNBC. The converse is not true, however; 80% of women with TNBC are not BRCA+. Knowledge about the BRCA mutation is importantinformation for you and your family.

Lee, if your Kaiser oncologist recommends another oncologist outside the systemthey will pay for it, at times…they don’t advertise that but they will pay forit at times. I just went through that exact situation with someone I amhelping. The key words are at times.

Dear k.c.,

good luck with your scan..and thanks for sharing your story.

I wish there were other things available to BRCA+ women to reduce their risks. My BRCA1+ daughter did the same surgeries.

all the best,

<p ="Msonormal">Steve
